4.56 and front locker are on the menu once my current tires die. Might as well chop 35/12.50R17s in there. How strong are our axles?

^Stock CV axles will break if you abuse the front locker on 35s. If you upgrade to $2k RCV 300M axles like I did on my Tacoma, the next weakest link is said to be the intermediate shaft connecting the front diff to the passenger CV axle. There is no upgrade or reinforcement for that.

^Sharp turns on high-traction surfaces, hopping in a climb, etc.

I was about to ask you that exact same thing, sharp turns with locker engaged. I avoid those turns even with 34s and no locker

I wouldn't leave the pavement without at least one spare CV axle and tools to install it.

Yea, the stock axles are a little tender, but you can control how much stress they get. Just use your head instead of your right foot :burnrubber:

I’d also pay attention to how you’re accommodating the 35s. IOW, lift is *not* how you do it. See https://www.coastaloffroad.com/clearing-35-tires-at-any-ride-height/

Lots of food for thought in that post.

With 35s do not crank the steering to lock, that helps reduce the stress on the rack, finally watch the breaks as they will wear quickly too. Use 4low off road to conserve them.

Rabbit hole? You bet! If you have deep pockets, I kind of dig what 74Welds is doing!

    Good luck and enjoy!
