    Dealing with some health stuff this month, but when I'm back on my feet I'm going to try testing with my snorkel removed. Right now I'm seeing ~6.7lbs at 1000' elevation and ~5500rpm but also have some belt slip going on. Supposed to see close to 8lbs

    There’s another thread titled “those with the Magnuson supercharger” and there’s a guy that was a beta tester and said it’s been great. A lot more usable low-mid range torque. I plan on getting Yotawerx tune sometime soon

    There's a tacomaworld thread where OTT was working with some Procharged 2nd tacomas and a FJ, which is a very similar setup to my 4r with the Procharger.

    Their findings with the Procharger tune from over two years ago are identical to what I'm seeing in my data logging right now. Like procharger got one single working tune and that's all the effort that was ever put into it.

    I think for the 1gr-fe procharger tune, they disable VVTI, and then run it super rich mid rpm and scary lean at the highest boost/rpm ranges.

    No doubt there's going to be some massive improvements with a dedicated tuning company.

    I should be able to get on a dyno in april. I plan on installing this griptec pulley and talking to OTT for a tune here in a few weeks

    I wish there was more power options for the Magnuson Supercharger like there is for Procharger/URD. At least you guys can upgrade the pulley, apparently the Magnuson is maxed out

    It's just as easy to change the pulley on the Magnuson as well to get more than 6 psi of boost. The sky is the limit. However, Magnuson collaborated with Toyota years ago when it was offered for the FJ Cruiser and the 4Runner. It was intentionally set up at only 6 psi of boost to allow for warranty coverage and in doing so gave Toyota the confidence that their product would still retain it's reliability without adverse effects on their product.

    It makes no difference if it's Magnuson, URD or Pro Charger in terms of boost/horsepower. The question is at what point does a given amount of boost/HP begin to bring reliability into question. So no, the Magnuson is not "maxed out". Anyone is free to change the pulley and get 7, 8, 9 lbs of boost if they wish. Also, Yotaworx and others have tunes for the Magnuson and the others that will significantly increase performance as well. Increase boost you get closer to or beyond the limits of reliability. Lean the A/F ratio, change timing curves with a tune, you narrow the gap to the point of unreliability. I'm not saying a tune will cause failure but you are closer to that point. The engine as designed does have a limit to how much HP it can handle before failure. I don't know where that point is.

    I am personally happy having the extra buffer due to the, by design, conservative nature of the Magnuson. The URD dyno above is very impressive and likely has 30 more HP at the wheel than my Magnuson. I'm stoked to see it and I'm very happy for the O.P.

    I'm also happy with my choice and may not even get a tune. I now have more HP than my 2019 V8 Silverado and far less gear hunting. That was my goal but..........YMMV :)

    I have zero interest in trying to increase the boost or power beyond this Procharger kit on the stock engine until I'm forced to deal with a catastrophic failure. The Procharger tune runs a little lean (12-12.5) at the higher rpm/boost ranges and I'm thinking a tune is going to be needed to make this a little safer. So I'm taking it easy, wot runs to sort things out but not doing burn outs

    Then the after market pulley is to combat belt slip and so I can run a slightly looser belt (both in theory) but it's the same size as stock. I've been dealing with belt slip issues with no real luck trying different belts out.

    Here's a quick example of what I see. It was difficult to tell that this was happening until I setup rpm/boost/fuel/afr data logging.

    Green is PSI
    Red is RPM

    They should be somewhat close in shape on the graph but the green has a huge dip then waivers around 3100rpm. I have much better examples of this also, although it's better since switching belts

    +1 Look at all the people in the 6th gen room crying that the 4R is dead because they added a turbo.


    Also, the 1GR is pretty mildly tuned even for a N/A engine. If they wanted to they could easily have engineered 300hp+ out of it just with hotter cams, porting and freer flowing intake/exhaust. But then they would have to spec premium fuel and people would b***** about that.

    Not really. I think for the Maggie they said drive slowly at first so that you check for any unusual things, and you let the ECU get adjusted. But there isn't a break in procedure per say. I certainly wasn't flooring it or going nuts on it, just driving normally and getting used to it.

    I supercharged my FJ, it was great but costed to much in gas. Went from $50 per week to fill to $130 per week due to using higher octane gas. I will not add a supercharger to the 4runner, can't afford filling it up at that cost.

    Yeah man jumping to premium gas is quite a jump in fuel cost right now.

    I'll be closer to gears and a tune than a supercharger. Although if fuel prices come down a maggy might be back on the menu.

    Holy cow, $50 to $130 a week is huge. Premium here is $1 more per gallon thankfully.

    Around here premium runs 30-50 cents more… I.e. regular is 3.50. Premium is 3.80 or 4.00….. something doesn’t add up. For his fuel cost to almost triple would mean premium is triple, or at least double and his gas mileage tanked.

    I was thinking the same. Or he is driving way more miles and putting his foot into each time he accelerates in order to feel the new acceleration. I would probably be guilty of that on both accounts after adding a supercharger.

    Forgot to mention that I switched from a 19 gal tank to a 30 gal tank (around $4.35 for super premium per gal). Switched tanks before the supercharger.

    Yes, I have the YotaWerx Stryker+ tune on my 4Runner right now. Have tried the base map as well. It is a massive improvement in off the line acceleration, even at light throttle inputs. Now if I roll into my pedal slowly the supercharger will just gradually increase the boost where the Magnuson tune felt almost like stock (or less because of drag) for the first 4k rpms and then if you floored it the supercharger would kick in. The Magnuson tune would allow boost going up hills with little effort but that was the only time I felt it unless I floored it. The YotaWerxs tune is just beastly compared to the Magnuson tune.

    If you want the highest hp numbers with the Magnuson go with OTT but you will need a better fuel pump. The OTT tune sacrifices low end tq for higher hp late in the rev range where the YotaWerx tune gives you all the tq off the line to about 5k then falls off due to not requiring a fuel pump; however, if you want to buy a pump and have them retune they will.

    As far as mpg goes, that is all up to your foot control. I've averaged as high as 19mpg and as low as 14mpg driving the same stretch. Just depends on how fast and often you want to use the power.
