If you had the money and space would you buy one more 5th Gen before all hell breaks loose?

When all hell breaks loose? You mean Gen 6 right? That's exactly why I just bought my 1st 4R. I've always wanted one and had to make a move before 4R's changed for the worse (aka Gen6).

Yeah I mean before the 6th gen and most likely a turbo 4 banger and maybe no roll down window, maybe made in Mexico, and unknown reliability until time tells.

In other words would you get another one in your family now now before you can’t get one anymore if you have the cash and ability to keep one

No, I think I can reasonably expect my '23 to last longer than I can fully take advantage of a vehicle like this.

Nope. Turbo 4cyl is going to be awesome, it'll have way better power delivery than the 4.0.

My only regret is that it'll be years before I can comfortably afford one.

If I had lottery money I would. I know my 5th gen will last me but if someone ran into me and totaled it, it would be nice to have a spare.

I got my 5th gen specifically for the reliability. I don't base decisions on speculation, assumptions or reputation. Proven facts are the only thing that mattered to me when choosing to buy. The 5th Gen has a proven track record for reliability and extreme longevity.

Yes, I would. However, storing a car long-term isn't only about space. You have to drain gas tank, fog the engine, unload suspension and tires and remove the battery. The car also cannot sit outside, as weather and critters will damage it long term.

So it is not just buying a car.

I might buy another one to keep relatively stock. Then finish building mine with a long travel setup, no front swaybar, supercharger and yotawerx tune. Steel bumpers and 35's.

The new stock 4R would be my daily :santa2:

It's not like 5th gens aren't going to be around. I'll let some other fool take the hit on the depreciation. Besides, I consider mine only 1/2 used with 180K on the clock.

I’d buy a new 5th gen and be sure to only drive it a maximum of 10k to 12k miles/year as an occasional daily.

I would then project out my present 5th gen, swap the engine from my dad’s LS460, porter axles, 35s or 36s on Machete Beadlocks…for starters.

If I had the money and space to buy another 5th Gen, I would pay off the current 5th Gen that I have. Why let a vehicle sit in the garage wasting away?

I wouldn’t, just sitting won’t be too good for it plus I totally understand and sometimes agree with the whole “don’t make ‘em like they used to” deal but in this case I don’t think it would be worth stockpiling for neither personal or “investment” use hopes.

If I hit lottery money, ignoring land, I’d rather try out a Bolt or some other hatchback (gas, electric, tbd) as a second car. And if the 5th is totaled, then maybe I can do something more enthusiast-y like restoring a Borrego or something weird.

Then I would rip out the 4.0L and replace it with a 2.4L Turbo just piss off the 6th gen naysayers. :bananadance:

Nope. When my 5th gen croaks, I'll buy another used 5th gen or used 3rd gen Tacoma for my daily commute. I'm done buying new vehicles and fretting over break-in oil changes and every little rock chip.

Nah, I'd buy land that only other 4x4's could get to and put a small structure on it.

Yes, I now have two 5th gen 4Runners. I bought a 2023 TRD ORP to replace a 24 year-old Nissan Maxima I was driving. My wife loves driving a new 4Runner while I now drive our older 5th gen, a 2011 Trail with 128K miles. I've done all the maintenance on the 2011 and since I'm almost 73, I decided to get a second 5th gen rather than learn how to maintain (or repair) a 6th gen 4Runner. I don't drive much, so I'm not concerned about fuel cost. I calculated 21.5 mpg on the last fill up, which is a little bit better than the Maxima which used more expensive premium fuel. A 4Runner has the space to hold everything we need a take on our frequent short vacations.
