    What's up everyone

    I purchased a 2014 SR5 with 90k miles last week!

While being new to owning a 4x4 and something that's not a shit box, there's already tons of things I want to do to my new money pit.

I'm getting hung up on understanding what the correct setup would be when it comes to suspension, lift kits, rims, and tires. There's a ton of threads on those set ups but I can't get around to what an offset is (part of the rim itself or suspension), whether I need spacers when I get a lift kit, what rims can work with what tires, etc...

Yep... I'm completely incompetent when it comes to these things as I've always had unreliable vehicles and therefore never been obsessed with and/or knowledgable about them... until now.

With this, please feel free to explain what your set up is. As far as suspension, lifts, rims, tires, spacers, and whatever else I might need to know being a complete noob a the moment.

A lot more research to do and I appreciate any helpful info or resources.

    Thanks!

    Welcome dude

Just keep reading and checking out builds.

Think long and hard what your end result wants to be, like are you going to have heavy steel bumpers? That will effect suspension. And before you start buying, post on here. And ask opinions.

Welcome! If you are serious about first 4x4 and first non-shitbox, DO NOT start modding your ride yet. You're already driving the most capable thing you've ever had. Its boring af but you know what everybody that drives non-shitboxes does? Regular maintenance. By mileage its a baby, but its still 10 years old so make sure everything in the manual is up to date.

Then spend some time figuring out what it can do and what it cant, while you're using Search and reading through forums here to learn things like the difference between a spacer lift(ride height) vs hub spacers(ride width), and that with an independent front suspension(IFS) like you now have, moving your wheels and tires out wider makes you MORE LIKELY to rub. Its counterintuitive and one of the 100s of things I've learned reading here or Tacomaworld.

Seriously, enjoy it how it is until you get a feel for what you want and need to do. Then light a bunch of money on fire like most of us.

Took me a while to get this concept too, but the lower the offset, the more the wheels protrude. The stock 4Runner wheels have a +15 offset and the Pro wheels have a +4 offset. That means the Pro wheels protrude 11mm more than the stock wheels. The number can go negative as well which would mean the wheels are even farther out. As far as appearance goes, I swapped my stock wheels for the Pro wheels when I picked up my '24 SR5P. That 11mm of offset is just enough to get the outer edge of the tires to line up vertically with the fender flares while the stock wheels on my wife's '15 SR5 look slightly "pushed in," if you know what I mean.

Anyway, congrats on the pickup! My wife's SR5 has 85K and literally drives no differently than my '24. It's amazing how long these things drive like new.
