The steering angle alarm has gone off in my 2023 Limited 3 times recently. The truck has 6800 miles on it. The wheels were straight every time.

Last week when I was driving in light snow, the left side alarm sounded, then the right side.

Also last week going through the car wash, they all sounded; left, right, and then both.

    Why did that happen?

Don't know but maybe it's zero point calibration time?

What is a steering angle alarm? I’ve never heard of that.

It sounds like you might be describing a lane assist beep when you get close to the lane marker. Or maybe the blind spot monitor. You’d have to look at the display to see if it says what’s beeping at you. I can imagine both of those features could be tripped by being inside a car wash with big rollers coming at the vehicle, or snow if it makes the lines of the lane disappear. The owners manual has a section that describes hiw those systems work, their limitations, and what could trick them and cause false alarms or inappropriate activations.

I agree with McSpazatron, I have a 2019 Limited and the sensors often alarm when driving straight. Most often, they alarm when backing out of the garage as I approach the exterior wall. They also alarm, annoyingly, if waiting in the drive through. Again, I think it’s the close proximity of wall(obstacle) to sensor.

Sorry guys, but my 2023 Limited has a window in the information center that show the steering angle of the front wheels. That's where the alarms are coming from.

This the screen. When the alarm sounds, an orange bar lights up outside the affected tire.

Then I have no idea what they might be. Usually a steering angle error results a check engine light and a bunch of other inoperative systems that depend on steering angle information.

In other words, if you truly had a problem with steering angle, your dash should be lit up like a christmas tree, and you should be able to pull obd codes that indicate the failure.

I would try to reproduce the situation where it’s safe for you to closely look at the instument panek when it happens. It could be the display changes to the lane assist page where it highlights a lane line that you are getting close to. I wanna say it might be an orange bar. Or see if you can take somebody with to take a picture of the display when it happens

Google Steering Angle sensor and look at all the ones on the Lexus forum. Looks like its pretty common.

Being a 2023 sounds like you need to go to dealer for warranty.

Are you driving with the MID in the steering angle selection?

Does the alarm sound with LDA and/or Parking sensors turned off?

I was stopped, and toggled to it for the picture. I never use the Steering Angle screen.

Don't be discouraged by all of the comments and questions. We are trying to wrap our heads around it and help solve the issue.

@Toolguy73 Do you have a video or picture of the error?

The picture in that thread is weird. Never seen it, but it looks like it might be the same thing that the op @Toolguy73 is seeing on his.

One guy says it might be parking sensors. But that information display hasn’t been vague with other trouble warnings related to sensors,it just tells you in plain English something isn’t functioning, is not available, and see dealer. Usually the non-descript beeps are lane, crosstraffic, distance alerts.

Somebody says it’s the steering angle/zero point calibration. That’s harder to believe because VSC and traction control, lane alert depend on having a valid steering angle. So if that were the case, that would lead to error messages and lights for all those systems that would not go away.

Also, the last guy that posted about a steering angle problem had just had his alignment done. The error was caused by the shop trying to reset zero point using some other diagnostic computer system, not toyotas. And after he got it back, his steering angle display nothing at all (no wheels).

Seems to be a mystery best left to the dealer. Almost seems like a software bug because of how it doesn’t really say anything specific. But if it didn’t trip an error code, it might be a mystery to the dealer too. Definitely worth taking pictures of the screen when it happens!

After reading this thread, have you tried turning off the parking sonar sensors? When I had my 2016 limited, there was a button on the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. I remember having to turn it off in some snow storms because the sensors would beep at every stoplight. The sensors and beeping are only active up to a certain speed 10mph or 15mph. After that speed, they shut off.
