I should've been more clear in my comment. I meant to say that the Toyotas we traded for are all made in Japan (RAV4 and 4R). I'm pretty sure her '22 Tacoma wasn't made in Japan...

Here in the "dry side" of WA, most 4Runners seem to be used for family cars. Maybe a roof basket or tires but that is all (Many don't even have that). Coming home from the chiropractor yesterday about 10 AM (about 3 miles and 4 stoplights), I counted 10-12. Actually, more than all models of "GYPS" combined. Usually, around town, the numbers are about even.

Love the LED lights. Never had them before and what a difference over the halogens.

Toyota resale value is amazing. Drove my 2020 Tacoma for over three years and sold it privately for $6,000 less than I paid for it. Sold the topper separately for close to what I paid for it.

There are some great attributes listed so far. Among my favorite things about this vehicle is the comfort and visibility. I find the old-fashioned truck engine sound comforting. The head unit seems less popular here, but coming from a 2010 Outback, I like the amount of information it provides, the readability, and ease of control.

How was your experience with outback? I seriously considered it last year but wife overruled it due to second row leg room. I really wanted to like it -- more power slightly more power and while a little smaller it didn't seem *that* small compared to 4runner, at least on paper.

I've generally liked it. I drove a 1997 Outback for 300k miles and my 2010 has 242k. My wife has a 2016. It has decent cargo capacity and nice handling on the road, especially in bad weather. I had the 4-cyl, so never much power, and it's not super quiet. I like it as a commuting car, but I was pretty conservative off road, mostly sticking to better Forest Service roads. I've driven more recent models as loaners, but only on the highway.

LED Lights, the fact that when I touch my door panels or close them they don't rattle (like my 85k Ford did), drama free driving, super comfortable ride - IDK why anyone complains about the stock Fox shocks.

I just traded out a '22 Outback Wilderness for the 4R. I have lots of things to say about it, only about half of which are good. Please feel free to message me if you'd like more info. I don't want to go too off topic here.

Funny! I too traded up from an Outback. Definitely not missing the 150 squirrels! It was good for snowy roads and fire roads but pretty pathetic off road when the trail deteriorated. I don't think I'll be missing much other than the mileage but that alone didn't make it worth it. Hence the new '24 OR in my driveway!

Funny to find so many ex-Outback owners here. The same for me.

In my opinion CVT ruined it, I can't stand it. On top of that there are usual interior plastic rattles and finish issues, like door pillar rust even when you treat it. More so, on the last one relays froze in very cold weather, making warm start problematic and there was no fixing it, you just knew it could do that and prepare.

I always had an Outback in the stable, but moved on to 4Runner. However, Outback is substantially cheaper than any 4Runner. So it is not apples to apples comparison.

I am so glad I ended up with a 4Runner. Station wagon style is what I liked and its owners certainly stick with it (Subaru in general), I figured there must be a reason why they like it. Sounds like after the last redesign it took turn for the worse.

Agreed, CVT was the Outback's worst sin.

I hated the CVT too! Mash the go pedal and there was a whole lot of growling from the engine but the car didn't get up and go very fast. Get the CVT on a steep hill and it just slips. Had to get a run of hills which can be exciting when there are rocks. The build quality was definitely lacking. Every door sounded differently when it was closed and the driver door sounded the worst (at least on mine). When I waxed it the roof felt about as thin as tin foil. People grumble about the sound systems in 4R's my new OR sounds 100X better that what my Premium had. Sound proofing needed to me improved, my AT's were so loud you would have thought I was running Super Swampers. Not missing it at all and absolutely loving the 4R!

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

I dont know if anybody mentioned this, but I noticed immediately other drivers on the road do not tailgate me or really cut me off like they do when I drive my car. I even drive the Runner slower than my car, mainly because it is slower :D so you'd think I'd have a bigger problem but its quite the opposite.

Toyota may own part of Subaru but thankfully does not use any of the problematic stuff in Toyotas. Well, the 86/GR86/FRS are rebadged BRZ. No boxer engines, no Subaru CVTs, etc.

I do wish Toyota retained the manual/handbrake set up available in small cars for longer though.

Unlike any other cars I've ever had, where it drove me crazy if they were the slightest bit dirty, it never bothered me when my 4Runners got a little grungy. They almost seemed like they SHOULD be. Also I drive a lot, and with every other car as the miles ticked away, I had this nagging feeling that I was using them up. Never had that feeling with the 4Runners. As I write this, I realize maybe I need some counseling. LOL
