Well, I debated back and forth about the claims people have made about the Sprint Booster and finally decided to just bite the bullet. I installed it yesterday and, IMO, all of the claims seem to be true as to improving the 4Runners drivability. $300 is a lot, but well worth it to add to the ease of just getting this thing down the road. :)

I think they both pretty much accomplish the same thing. It’s pretty impressive that such a simple device can do so much.

It IS stupid simple. I'm really surprised that it's not higher on the list of mods for most cuz it's such a big bang for the buck. It directly addresses the sluggish response that most owners complain about.

The 4Runner pedal was designed to be like that. It’s made for wheelin, like the old jeeps have.

You can ease the pedal to crawl. But yea city driving probably not the best.

Toyota had it listed in the brochure

Yeah - that's the beauty of these devices. They can be turned off for wheelin' and back on for street.

Is this Sprint booster programmable like the Pedal Commander? Can you set the pedal response as you like it? Or just one setting?

There are nine settings from 1 thru 9 for Sport, the same for Race; then Normal and OFF. Lots to choose from.

I think so, too. I picked the SB because, according to their web sites, the SB looked easier to see the current setting at a glance.

Will you please post a follow up with changes in gas mileage with the device once you've run it diedwe a while? I'm thinking of getting one myself.

Gladly! Tho it may be a couple of weeks before I can stop playing around with the response. It's totally like a different truck. :)

Seriously, if there's a MPG penalty, I think it would be very small if at all, assuming I can stop experimenting with the precision acceleration now available. I can see the possibility of a very slight increase because it's just so easy for minute speed changes now rather than having to really push the pedal. If we had still had carburetors I'd be very confident of an increase in mileage cuz' you're not pushing more fuel through an accelerator pump every time ya touch the pedal, but obviously, that's not the case with a MAF sensor. I don't know if fewer small throttle adjustments have any effect on a MAF. It is easier to drive much smoother now, tho.

FWIW, one of the most noticeable differences is just normal driving up a slight grade. It's totally different not having to keep applying a bit more pedal and then a bit more waiting for a suitable response. Just a slight increase and you're ascending smoothly. This is for on road only, tho. I'd still turn the SB off for trail driving.

BTW, I was at my dealer two days ago and my salesman has a 2018 Pro and I let him drive my ORP. The first word out of his mouth was "WOW!" and the second was "Where do I get one?". His is on order. :)

I got the pedal commander, have to agree it feels like a whole different truck. Pedal commander has a promo code as well, got mine shipped for $264.

    Amazing, isn’t it?

Is there any difference other than the number and method of settings?

Not really there is an eco mode on pedal commander but it also has a sub setting 1-4. I leave mine in sport 1 mode. Going into sport plus with any higher sub setting is rediculous.

I’m mostly staying in the mid to upper range, switching between Sport and Race. Trying to refine it a little but it’s pretty good in the whole range so far.

I would be interested in trying them side by side. So far I’m really impressed, miles better than stock!

My salesman ordered the PC so maybe I’ll be able to do a side-by-side after he gets it.

Good news. :) I drive a loop to my son's house that totals about 180 miles. Driving there two weeks ago (before the SB) I was able to get 17.2 MPG for the trip. I made the loop today under very similar weather and traffic conditions, including the addition of a twenty minute, stop and go traffic and construction slowdown, and managed 18.1 MPG for loop. A .9 increase equals a pleasantly surprising addition to the already great improvement of the driving experience. Even if it's a coincidence, it definitely proves that there's no MPG penalty with the SB. I'm happy. :) :) :)

There's no reason I can think of, but a disreputable dealer might be able to imagine a problem with it.
