Can I put a set of 285 70 17 tires on a stock 2016 TRD Pro? .....my truck has a factory 1" stock lift on the front. Curious to know or will there be rubbing or modifications needed to use these tires- driving wise- light back country 10-15% of the time -highway /around town 85%.

Lift doesn't clear tires on IFS. But, generally, 285/70/17 will fit with minor trimming.

If you don't want to trim anything, stick to stock size. Otherwise, get the 285's and cut to clear, and enjoy!

Without lift 285 on Pro = Almost Fail

You can also take expert advice, not lift and keep stock tires.

(Or my amateur choice) You can also lift about 2.5in front (along with a matching rear not to have an odd rake) and try 285s on factory wheels. It might work as it did on my other 4runners. (Edit - along with same minor plastic trimming I did on above video.)

Stock is the biggest. A 275/70r17 will rub. Ask me how I know. A 255/80r17 will some too as far as I know

I agree, i think the choice of wheels is the deciding factor. I am running 285/75/17 Toyo RT’s on the Sema wheels 17”x7” and hardly had to do anything other than slight trimming of the fenders and a BMC. Now in all honesty i do not now the downfall of running this tire on a 7” wheel, but hey, I’m taking one for the team. I have hardly any poke, and very strong rim protection, no balance problems, and i see no odd wear problems. I am including a couple pics. For your viewing enjoyment.

^I had nearly this same setup for a while. With the right wheels, 285/70/17 fit without much trimming. The TRD Sema wheels are 17x7 +4 offset. That wheel size is what allows this setup to clear with likely no/ or very little trimming. Edit: I had SPC upper control arms installed and 4 degrees of caster. This allowed me to keep the front mud flaps and not rub at all.

I'm currently moving to RRW 17x8.5 -12 offset with my same tires. Because of this, I am in the process of a BMC and fender liner mod.

Not to confuse the issue, but my new wheel size will move the wheel out very close to what a 1.25" spacer on the TRD Sema wheels would be.
However, it's lighter than that combination, the wheel width is back in the engineering specification for my tire choice (some will argue if this is important) and this particular wheel will allow me to run beadlocks in the future. Plus I like the look of them. :)

    I have 275 70 17 's on a 17' ORP - no trimming / zero rubbing.
