CarFax Question

Does anyone know for certain whether or not a CarFax report will indicate if a vehicle was ever stolen at some point in its past?

 

Yes, it will show up as "Recovered - Stolen". That's if it was stolen and recovered. If it was just stolen and NEVER recovered, nothing will be reported.

 

It's expected but of course there is always the chance of a clerical error with an auto history report.

 

I would never trust Car FOX!!(that's their mascot a FOX!?!?!) Like guarding the chicken house, eh.
Heard of some shady deals. Garbage in is garbage out! And that is why I only buy new, I just don't trust people especially a used car salesman/woman.Not really trusting of new salespersons either BUT if you want new gotta play the game to a limit. Bought new since I was 25, trade @ 70-90k mi. That's just me.

 

I guess. 2 of me vehicles had accidents and never showed in Carfax.

And on my 4Runner that faced an accident reported as Minor damage, "minor damage is usually cosmetic, including dents or scratches to the vehicle body"

Did the core support get replaced? If it’s only sheet metal it is cosmetic only I believe.

 

When I sold my Nissan Titan I had disclosed a collision that was professionally repaired through insurance. The guy who eventually bought it asked for a Car Fax which showed nothing lol.

 

I don't have too much info as I do not have that 4Runner, dealership bought it back. When initially they fixed it it had christmas lights on dash, steering was stiff, tires hitting sway bar on full lock, notice the UCA adjustment nut is misaligned, 4wd functions not working, many more issues. Complained to Toyota Corp as the vehicle is not safe to drive and GM of the dealership called me on a Sunday and make it right.

 

My Rav4 and Venza was repaired by insurance using party at fault's insurance expense at a Honda dealership. I did nothing to hide the record going to carfax.

 

I'd say the report is good to exclude things before looking but amidst the bulk of rental 4Runners, one of them I looked at last year had a clean, personal vehicle history on the report but shoddy rear bumper repair, a sense of wear on the interior and a bit of untucked headliner not to mention an Avis sticker on that tow wiring bag shooed me away.

 

There are lots of horror stories on the news about people buying cars that checked out clean but ended up getting repossessed because they were stolen. Some of these people are buying these from dealers.
