Who has a Sherpa Crestone

I'm wondering if any of you have one with no accessories attached if you can take a couple pics for me. TIA

I’ve had the rack for 18 months. Carries a ton on road trips and easy to move crossbars as needed

 

How tall does it sit from top of the cab?

 

I’ll add it’s easy to install and easier still if you have an assistant.

I’ve had it for over a year and it’s been solid.

 

Nearly 4 years, still going strong

 

I measured form roof top to top of Sherpa rack….
Rear about 4.25”
Middle 3.50”
Front 4.50”

 

top of cab to top rail mounted is 4 1/4”. To top of rack to bottom of cab is about 57.5”

I’m running to 285/70/17 tires with a 2.75” lift in front and 2” in back. Total hight stands approximately 6’4”

Those of you who have had the rack for a while, any signs of rust anywhere? Just mounted mine a few months ago.

 

Nothing should rust. All parts are stainless steel and aluminum.

 

FWIW, I have the Westcott rack. I shopped both Sherpa and Westcott because imo they were the best two racks (of this style) on the market. If I wanted tube style then I would have looked at Gobi as well.

I will tell you they both have top notch customer service with Westcott winning for me because they are local and have went above and beyond anytime I've asked them something.

My reason for this thread was because I'm trying to suss out before spending the money if the Sherpa window panels will work on the Westcott rack. This is definitely the area Sherpa is ahead of Westcott by a little. The fact they have their own accessories is really convenient. I also like their rubber mounts/metal sleeves, which I why I bought and ran those on my Westcott instead of using silicone. I'm seeing one area of possible issue with running the Sherpa window panels but still think I'm gonna try it anyway. I'll let you all know how it plays out ... even though you all have Sherpa racks haha

 

I've been running a Sherpa Crestone for a few years, including some hard trail use. I chose it over the Prinsu because it had better waterproof mounts to the roof. No regrets for the choice I made at that time.

Last month I added a tent, and I'm not sure I trust the old rack to handle the stresses. My primary concern are with the two-piece front mounting brackets, which could shorten themselves on a hard bump, driving the rack into the top of the A-pillar. I also have doubts as to whether the tent mounts will hold up under hard use, because each is attached to a side channel with two 1/4-20 bolts, which I fear could twist out of the channel under stress.

If I were purchasing a new rack today, I would strongly consider the new Prinsu Pro. Their new mounts look sturdy, and their tent mounts fit across the top of a crossbar rather than hanging off a side channel. Anyway, use your imagination and worst-case every twist and stress. Ultimately this style of rack is a giant erector set.

 

What issues do you see with the Sherpa window panel? I installed a passenger side one just before thanksgiving, seems sturdy. While I have not mounted anything on it yet, but perhaps a 2 gallon rotopax jug at most. I believe Sherpa recommends nothing more than 35lbs.

 

There are two issues that may arise for me.

The first and primary is that the Westcott mounts connect midway up the side plate. This means where the Sherpa window mount bolts up to the rack I'd probably have to space out a bit to keep the angles correct which then may push it too far out for the window little suction cup things to seat right.

The second and less concerning is that the Westcott rack doesn't have the same long openings for the cross bar, so I have to hope that the ones on my rack line up with the holes on the window panel where the panel sits appropriately following the window outline so it doesn't look off.

 

OK. I missed the part where you are mounting the Sherpa on a Westcott rack. Best of luck. The damn thing looks like an armor truck with the panel!
