I own a 1995 Tacoma, 4wd, MT, xtra cab, 250, XXX miles (100K are mine), long bed, 2" lift, winch, SS skid plate, 31" tires hitch mounted swing out tire carrier. Have done lots of trails in Moab area, Bullhead city, Sedona, Ouray & others. Thinking about replacing it with a 4th gen Runner. Is there one place I can go (on the net) to figure out what all the differences are between models/trims, factory equipment etc? What are the differences between the Taco & the Runner, other than the obvious like no bed, 4 doors etc? What if any of my stuff swap over to the Runner? What will I really like about the Runner? What maybe not so much? Links or what search terms to use Thanks. OBTW I am in Colorado Springs.

    Welcome from Arizona!
You should have several local places that specialize in offroad fun. I'm certain they can help you mod up.

    Welcome from Northern Michigan.

There's an awful lot of variables in your question. I'd start by searching for the specific things you have questions about. Look at many different 4Runner builds and decide which type fits your needs based on your expectations and your intended uses.

Sorry I seem to have confused the issue. I am wanting to know mostly about the various models such as Sport, Limited, etc & how they come equipped from the factory, what options were available on each so I can have an idea of what I am looking at as I search for good used examples. I know some of my stuff will swap over to a 3rd gen, but what about the 4the gen ? Is it as different from the 3rd gen as the 1st gen Taco is from the 2nd gen?

Cool, I'm sure you will get a lot of great advice. You may want to let everyone know what your intended uses will be and how often. For example, will you be overlanding, pavement only, mild off roading or more hardcore offroading.

If off roading is in the mix many will suggest the SR5 which for many is the perfect starting point. I personally chose the Offroad Premium. I know ATRAC works brilliantly, but I also wanted the locking rear differential because when ATRAC wasn't quite enough, the locking rear was able to get me going. Many people won't need this but it depends on you specific circumstances. I also like having a manual transfer case lever.

Choosing which trim level ultimately depends on how you intend to use your 4Runner, weather or not you plan to modify it and what features you think you need.

Got that, but where can I find out what the various models/trim levels included? Like if I am looking at a used 2008 Sport, what was standard equipment? What options were available? 16" wheels? 17" wheels? Back-up camera? Info like that is what I am looking for.
Only thing I have found so far is a Wikipedia page. Any place I can go that will tell me more details? Trying to whittle down the ads on the net before I start responding. Thanks for your info.
