The rear passenger window in my 2012 4Runner is no longer working. I heard clicking at first, but then nothing. The window went down on its own into the door frame. I took the door panel off and checked around. I stuck my head into the hole and saw this bad boy just laying on the bottom of the frame, not attached to anything. From research it appears to be the Window Regulator Rail. I can't find anything online to guide me further. Anyone got any ideas on where to go from here?

Did you look at the rear driver's side window to compare?

I believe you are correct. The glass moves up and down freely. The window regulator has a white square plastic part at the top that is currently directly against the window. It appears this square piece is supposed to be in the channel in the part I shared, and the window inserted into the channel above it. Problem is, the regulator arm is fully extended, and too high to get its square piece back into this channel. I can't manually pull it down. I could take the door panel off and take it all apart but I don't have new parts at the moment, and my hunch is that it needs a new motor and *maybe* regulator. Wondering how this thing got loose. Full disclosure, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Does the window switch on the door raise or lower that arm?

    We all started somewhere.

Yeah I'm 57 so a late bloomer, but with today's vehicle and insurance costs, this is now a necessary skill.

Ok update. I put the window down all the way and held the switch for a few seconds. Then the up switch worked! So now I have the window partially into that channel. Wondering what the trick is to get the window fully seated into the channel, its a tight fit. The channel has a black insert, should I take the insert out and seat that onto the window first then push that onto this rail? Or should I go old school and tap that guide up from the bottom to get the window into it? I don't see any set screws for the window, it appears the tightness of this channel is the only thing holding the window onto the regulator.

I did find one youtube video of someone changing out a regulator on an older 4Runner but its the same one. That piece I showed is on the window in the video, somehow it got loose. I'm going to take this to my repair guy and tell him I think this piece needs to be replaced, and maybe the regulator but maybe not. Hopefully I'll sound like I know what I'm talking about and he treats me right.

Here's the video for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSzTrxOSCaU

Follow up to close this out. I brought it to my mechanic, and he asked "do you have a dog?" I said yes. He said he saw prints and determined the dog must have stood on the switch too long. He reset the switch, put everything back together and it works. He recommended hitting the lock button when I have the dog in the back seat.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Did you put your dog in the "Cone of Shame" as punishment for breaking it? You should!
