2024 4Runner

Hi to all,

Recently I got a 2024 Runner SR5, but it didn't bring the hitch receiver. Could any of you tell me which one I should get that fit the 2024 rear bumper? I'm trying to get a small one like this:

 

How did they manage that? I've never seen a 5th gen 4R that didn't include a hitch receiver and the electrical connector from the factory. Did they make it optional for 2024?

 

Can you send a picture your rear bumper OP? I'm curious to see for myself

 

Agreed. That's standard on all 2024 4Runners. Go back to the dealership and tell them you want it and throw a fit if you have to.

 

I'm going to 2nd and 3rd what others have said. I thought ALL 4Runners came with trailer hitches, even the 2wheel drive Limited trims.

 

AND... make sure the trailer light adapter is there too. Sounds like someone bent theirs and they took it off your vehicle to fix someone else's.

 

To the OP... More succinctly, I'd say that all Gen 5 4Runners have a receiver hitch and trailer light hook-up (it's kinda hidden under the vehicle - drivers side rear just north of the bumper). If yours didn't have one when you took delivery of it as a new truck, someone removed it. Had to be that way. The dealership owes it to you (and make them install it too). Don't buy one out of pocket.

A few questions. Is the wiring present? It will be located underneath near the spare tire.

Ok, next question - is that your finished rear bumper? If so, there's a cover panel missing also. Unless you took that off for the photo...

 

Yeah, that was why I said the original (edited) picture looked suspicious. The panel is missing. I have never seen that area with the panel removed. Sorry OP, didn't meant to sound.......well, like a dick.

I also just realized that you FLIPPED UP the panel that usually covers this area. The panel isn't missing.

 

Two things for the OP:

1. Check the paperwork:
Pull your paperwork from the dealership and look at the original paperwork. Go to the Retail Purchase Agreement and look at all the line items and make sure that you weren't credited-back for removal of the hitch. If they removed it, but reduced/adjusted the price and you signed/agreed, they don't owe it to you. It still stinks, but that changes the approach here.

2. Look under your truck and let us know if the connector for the trailer lights is there.

This is interesting. My mother just bought a 2024 and my father was bragging about how "this one" had the tow package... I honestly didn't think much of it. I thought all 4Runners came with the receiver and electrical hookup.

 

They do - in the USA, at least... See my screenshot from the features page above. Hey... I'll just post it here again - sorry for the redundancy, but it's a good question.

 

Curious, I checked out Toyota's website in a few of the other countries that it sells the 4Runner in. In South America, this picture seems to show that it does NOT come with a hitch in some markets. Interesting!

 

OP, as you can see, this is pretty much unseen on this forum. I agree with others that I've never seen a Gen5 without the hitch and tow package. Maybe this was purchased outside the USA? If you eventually do get a bolt-on hitch, I suggest you get some sort of documentation on its load rating/capacity, and whether that will be supported if you install it yourself. I believe all Gen5 hitches that are factory installed are mounted to the frame, not the bumper. So the ratings may be different. I may be mistaken though.

I think we're all shooting in the dark until we know that. Most of us are USA-based and the hitch is standard equipment here. But if you're somewhere else, that could change things as SCmountaineer noted above. We're all willing to help, but need to know that.

I see what you mean. I didn't realize that either. That's what you get with a cropped photo, I guess. If it was further out, showing more of the bumper, we would have realized.

Here's the part. Not sure about the electrical hookup though. Maybe someone else can research that.

 

OP in Colombia, my bet. They have pretty cool standard modifications on T4R.
