Hey everybody, im new, this is my 3rd 4runner, love em ! Now to the problem, i was driving down the freeway around 65 mph and the engine lost power as if i took my foot off the gas pedal, i pushed down harder on the pedal then the gas started to flow and i made it back home with my gas pedal about three quarters to the floor . I checked the accelerator cable and it was fine and looked for loose wires etc. The next day i put some fuel system cleaner in the gas tank and drove it for 20 min on the freeway , no problem. I then decided to drive home and after about 15 min on the freeway, BAMM, it lost power again so i put my foot into it and it made it home again. Its like there is a dead zone on the first half of the gas pedal after driving it for a while on the freeway. Any thoughts ? thanks in advance. I am going to add this to my original post, I drove her again tonight, after 15 minutes on the freeway i lost power again, pulled to the side of the road, turned her off and waited 2 minutes , started her up and drove home, ran as smooth as silk. i will install the new filter and keep everyone posted.

Did you check your fuel filter?

Thanks for responding, I am ordering one , should be here tomorrow. The car runs great, idles nice and everything is smooth until i lose power and have to press down three quarters of the way to get home. It always runs smoothly even during the loss of power times, strange.

I'm sure there are other things that could do that but the fuel filter is the first thing to check. Hopefully that will take care of it for you. Please come back and give us an update once you have replaced it.

Any codes? If the TPS or PPS is going bad, you should get a code at some point...it may take a while though.

Seems like the problem will ultimately point to a fuel issue.

Could be the fuel regulator, could be the fuel pump or filter. You may want a fuel pressure test at some point and you may want to watch live data while you drive to see what you're getting when the problem happens.

Sounds like your catalytic converter may be clogged. I’m replacing mine tomorrow…
