5th Gen with Winter Tires?

Any of you run two sets of wheels/tires during the year? Winter/rest of the year tires? If so how do you deal with the TPMS sensors? Just look at the dash light during winter or do you reprogram each swap?

I have 2011 Limited FWIW, can't easily reprogram like the newer models.

I use a set of DuraTrac's for winter with the factory TPMS. My summer tires don't have TPMS in them- somewhere there is a jump-wire mod you can do, or just ignore it.

 

I run Falken Wildpeaks 24/7. Saves a lot of hassle.

 

I run both with TPMS sensors in each set. It’s easy on the 2020+ to switch between programmed tpms sets.

When I had 2 different sets on my 2016, I would just run down to discount tire and have them program the set that I was running for the season.

 

I see three options:

1. Ignore the light.

2. Get 3-peak rated all-weather tires like Falken AT3W and run them year-round.

3. Get programmable sensors put on the winter wheels. Program them with the same ID numbers as your existing sensors.

 

#2 is my vote

 

I ignore the light from May until October. After awhile, you don't even notice it.

I run MT's in summer and 3PMSF AT's for winter.

Depending on your needs, a good 3PMSF all terrain might work for you all year.

 

I am going with 3 and Blizzaks. Having not driven in the snow/ice, the dedicated snow tire seems like best bet for me at this time. I have heard good things about the Wildpeaks and will probably get another set of ORP wheels to replace the 20" limited wheels at some point and put those on them.

 

Good choice! Blizzaks and Hakkapeliittas are the best snow tires.

You looking to get snow tires? I run hakkapellita LT3 studded and they have been great in winter. It is not life changing like twice as good as a great AT, but I would say they are good enough to make a big difference when you really need it and could keep you out of an accident. Really notice it when braking or going up/down icy hills.

 

Not currently looking no, but interested what's out there, and if they're A/T winters

 

There are no AT winters due to compound differences needed for true winter tires. The closest thing would be the 3pmsf rated AT's. True snow tires do not hold up well to abuse like that because the compounds are too soft; they even wear down quickly on plain dry pavement when the temps are >45F.

Where would you be driving in the winter?

 

So first I don't have any TPMS sensors on my '16.
Second, I only run one set of tires so I save money. Also don't have winter rims, I told my OE Offroad wheels like a fool.
Running all-weathers m+s; no storage space needed, no season changeover, and my spare is a full size 285/70 m+s on the steely.

To answer your question directly, I'm not driving particularly anywhere really in the winter, aside from snowboarding trips. The 4R is my wife and kids daily, and in my region of Canada it's winter for many months, then cold rain season for months longer. So an 3pmsf a/t would be perfect for me
