What made you choose a 4 runner over a Jeep Wrangler or ford bronco?

Perfect reply, I was hoping someone would say because the window in the hatch area electronically rolls down.

Because I already have a '91 Jeep Wrangler (no top, no frills) for the nasty trails. It's flat towed behind the RV. I also take long road trips to Utah and Arizona without the RV. Not comfortable in the Jeep. The 4R is a comfortable open road cruiser that also very capable in the back county. Way more capable than the Outback (traded in). I've only had my '24 TRD OR for two days and I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get it out to the desert for some cushy wheeling!

I thought it's well known.. If not..

    1) Reliability
    2) Explorer/ Enjoy trails (within its limits) in comfort.
    3) Can even take a road trip in comfort have a decent fuel range.
    4) My dog loves the to ride comfortably with roll down the window a little bit.
    5) I feel much safer than a Wrangler and Bronco

Despite being long in the tooth, still the best looking SUV hands down! And the last capable one (Jeep's and Bronco's are in a different class)!

same reason I ditched Chevy SUV's for the 4Runner. I don't want to spend an hour fixing for every hour driving...too old for that junk now. Plus, like myself, the 4Runner can put in work and get dirty then clean up and look sexy as balls.

All of the above should satisfy the OP for his question, unless they are looking for more drama.

It’s made in Japan. Toyota 4x4s have world wide street cred. Wrangler and broncos less so .

Number one it's of course reliability. I had 2010 4runner for 11 years and aside of maintenance I had to replace only one thing - it was neutral switch on transmission, but it was slowly dying for over 6 months and wasn't completely dies when I replaced it. it's very important thing if you drive in remote areas. Another big thing for me is that with 4Runner it's easier to put cargo on the roof and rear window goes down which makes easier to carry something long, i.e. utility is better. And as a bonus 4Runner is more comfortable for long drives.

Easy answer...read the forums (Wrangler and Bronco). Most of the posts are about problems they are having.

I didn’t need Jeep levels of wheeling performance and the Bronco was not out yet but I wouldn’t buy the first year of any new vehicle.

Early 80’s and never looked back. Always toyota’s. Started off with tacomas and then to the 4runner and even tried a tundra. But staying with my 23 Pro.

I looked at a Bronco (the dark green color), but originally balked at the cost... then went and bought a 4Runner that costs more...lol.

The look of the 4Runner, Toyota reliability, the fact that it had a tried and true/proven V6, the incredible amount of mods you can do, can tow 5000lbs, adaptive cruise control (some people dont like that feature but I am a nerd who does), Softex isn't real leather but is durable asf and I have a black lab who will (eventually) be allowed into the 4Runner, yes - the roll down rear window, I think that about sums it up!

    Other than what’s been said…

Zero interest in retro styling or removable things, wind noise, the baggage of Stellantis and Ford design/construction nor do I care for the extra capability. (I suspect better interior packaging in the 4R)

The Xterra was the other cheap option I considered for the same reason but obviously passed.

Well it's not because my '03 TJ has a quicker to cool A/C system and a quicker to heat heater system.
And not because it's better rock crawler with a 5:1 Atlas T/C, Dana 60/44, ARB's with chromoly axles and a very pliant suspension.
It's mostly because my Wife likes that it's easier for her to get into and also the heated seats. Rear seat passenger comfort is good since the TJ has no back seat but, instead has an Oversized, lockable Tuffy box that carries a lot of shit to fix other peoples junk.

Also 90% of the nanny features/controls on the 4R, I could do without. Let me drive the damn thing.

And another thing, Broncos died after the last EB was produced. Just like the last importing of the FJ-40's.

I had a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with a soft top. Two issues made me sell it. One was the dreaded rear axle leak, which mine had at the right rear wheel. I installed an oil catch can on it, and that 3.6 Pentastar engine generated a LOT of blowby, as captured in the oil catch can. The Wrangler and Bronco always seem to make the 10-worst list from multiple sources, so neither one of those was on my short list. I had no interest in a 6th gen 4R, because I wanted a V6, not some high-strung turbo 4 or some kind of hybrid 4 cylinder. I also wanted one that had the engine oriented front to back, so that eliminated a lot of other SUVs in the same class. And come on, it's a 4R, it's gonna be like the Energizer Bunny and run and run and run...

Oh, and it's made in the same plant in Japan that produces the Lexus GX models, and it has the roll-down rear window...

I don’t like trendy shit. I like real trucks. Reliability played a key role, a Toyota will last forever. Also, I hate turbo engines and wanted a proven naturally aspirated V6.

On the 4R, the rear doors are proportionally similar to the front doors unlike both the Bronco and Wranglers. Getting in and out of the rear of a Wrangler is a joke because the door opening is so narrow. 4R ease of entry and larger area for the rear passengers is a definite plus.

I bought mine in 2019, and the JL's had just come out. I couldn't afford one of those, but I could afford a 6-year-old 4Runner.

Besides cost though, another reason was the use case. I talked to Wrangler owners and even they said the 4Runner was better for my use case. More of a commuter, transporting my dog and mountain bike, and realistically not too much off-roading because I'm in Rhode Island.

The 4Runner has been solid, but to this day I still think that the Wrangler and Bronco are cooler and more capable vehicles.

A 6spd manual, V8 Bronco Raptor (R?) would be tempting until I remind myself that I don’t want Ford headaches with my daily driver. Have owned a Jeep in the past and would laugh at a salesman trying to convince me to get another over a 4Runner.

Meanwhile, the 4Runner has exceptional build quality, ridiculous reliability, comfortable both on and off road, unique roll down window, amazing resale value (if needed), great looks…..as someone who doesn’t care about gimmicky car tech, it’s much harder to answer why WOULD I buy a Jeep or Bronco over a 4Runner.

Love all the classic naturally aspirated Toyota trucks, would choose them over their respective competitor pretty much any time.

I wanted the reliability plus the ease of finding both aftermarket parts and parts in general. My brother has the new Bronco and it's pretty cool but he had to wait over 6 month for someone to start making Rock Sliders. I just drove my 4Runner right to RSG in Denver and had mine installed along with their steel under armor in about an hour.

Reliability (simplicity) and resale value. Even though I won't sell lol. I am 24 and hate how much tech and complicated crap is in everything. Didn't wanna deal any more than I had too. I came from a 94 F150 so everything was an upgrade lol
