Looking to replace my rear coil springs. Just bought some 5100s and need to finish the job. Not interested in lift as much as being able to tow my fishing boat without sagging. Maybe carrying a couple hundred pounds of corn in back every now and then.

Is 2906 the answer? Seems like it from what I've been reading, I'm just a little concerned about too much lift.

    Thanks

I used Duralast regained two inches of stock lift.

    Few things

You're not interested in lift, but you purchased shocks that are longer than stock...which require a lift

Are you willing to replace the shocks again? Bilstein 5100's are super cheap anyway as are Tokico's if you go that route

As for OME906, they provide very little lift (1" to 1.5") and with just 150lbs at the rear you will sit near stock height

Thanks. The 5100s were advertised as 0-2" lift so I assumed they would be fine at stock height. $100 a piece isn't 'cheap' in my book :)

At stock height a shock for a lifted application has little to no travel left. You'll bottom them out. You MUST buy shocks for the correct ride height.

I went ahead and bought the 2906 springs so I should be OK now, right?

    Thanks

Tokico got bought by Hitachi a long time ago and for the most part left the shocks market. They made the original ones that came on the 4runner, and I'm sure Toyota still sells those for a high price. But Tokico's doesn't make that part for our 4runner anymore. KYB makes the best close to stock ones now (from what I've heard).

2906s and 5100s did the job quite nicely. Added a slight rake too even though a level on the door sill says it's perfectly level now. The rake looks like the 5th gens.

They'll settle some so expect to lose about 1/2" or more.

Thanks. I wasn't sure how much to settling to expect. Should still look good. Beefy springs with a couple of extra coils up top. Got rid of the squat that happened when I hooked up my fishing boat.

As long as you don't put much weight on them, because they compress quickly and easily.
