So looking at getting a set of Fifteen52’s black Analog wheels. Probably putting 2” lift kit and 285s on soon.

So for the 4runner bolt pattern they offer two options.

    17x8” 25mm offset
    17x8.5” 0mm offset

which one think is better? Pros and cons one vs the other size? Thank you.

First I just wanna say that that's an awesome wheel choice and I can't wait to see them on! That said, as you probably know, the poke between the two will be minimally different (19mm or so more with the 8"). That said, I had the Patrol HD in 8.5 because I was certain I was going to 285's but have since made the decision that I want 255's instead so I ditched the 8.5" wheels. My useless summary, I would go with the 8" to give yourself more options for tires in the future if you change your mind. But, not many people like 255's so take that with a grain of salt.

I know my stock OR wheels are 15mm offset.

So would not the 25mm offset move the wheels even more into the fender well? Or does the 8” wheel compared to 7.5” wheel offset that and they are in sane location?

I know the 0 offset 8.5” should push the wheels out a bit further than stock and be just about flush with the fenders and increase track width

also of reading it right, the 8” wheels are 2 pounds heavier than the 8.5” wheels. I assume cause the 8” wheels have more backspacing

I misread the ET and you are correct. 25mm would move things farther in. In your case, assuming you're going from 265's to 285's, the 8" wheel would only change your outer poke by about 4-5mm. It would, however, reduce the inward space by about 16mm. I used the link below to figure this as it's the link I've used a lot with wheel and tire questions. Hope this helps and I'm sorry for causing confusion on the offset issue.

Thank you for that link! Very useful.

From the diagrams on that link looks like 8.5” 0 offset is would work best. Stance goes outward just a bit. But the inner space between tire and coils/UCA would stay the same, where as 8” with 25mm offset would push inward and would worry tire would rub or be too close to the UCAs.

if I’m reading this right, a 8.5” wheel with 0 offset vs a 8” wheel with 0 offset would actually affect the scrub angle less. Where as the 8” wheel gives just a tad more clearance for the arms .

I think that's a good call as well. I'd way rather do a BMC than end up with something that is contacting the suspension and UCA's. Post pics when the new wheels get mounted!

That wasn't a good way to say it, my bad. You have to trim more with a more negative offset. Articulation stuff. Here is a reference for your benefit.

From watching tinker’s video (and ironically my name is same as the bearded cartoon guy) even though I really like the analog wheels I maybe almost better just staying with the stock OR wheels (which have one huge advantage - stem protection).

Also begs the UCA question with a 2-2.5” OME lift kit.

Was planning on Firestone destination AT2, which don’t have as an aggressive tread pattern at MT tires.

Ugh tires. Basically decide how much snow traction you need. And how much road manners you want. If you are buying a new set of rims you could have 2 sets so that can be an option

A lot more work goes in to do lifts past 2" correctly. A lot of work I don't think most people do lol

Stem protection is definitely a thing. I know some of the Black Rhino rims don't have them as far back as others like Method. You want it to be around 2" back. I just don't know how much of a factor it will be since I haven't done a lot of rock crawling. Here is another video that is useful. This guy has good information, I would say on par with Tinkerer, just more practical instead of engineer-like

For what it's worth, I liked the Analog wheel look because it was super simple and basic. When I went back to factory wheels I found a cheap set of FJ Cruiser trail wheels (8-hole style), got some primer and paint, and mounted them. All in for about $400 and they look very basic which is just what I was after and I get a wheel I know will work well for anything. I can also run spacers down the line if I want. Food for thought.
