    Hey big,

Do you have any rubbing now that you put the lift in? BTW is it just the preload collar key from Wescott? I just fit in the front preload collar and not the top hat spacer(I didn’t want my wife to notice it).

Yeah lots of good options in the AT’s. But like you I’m looking at the 255/80 17 AT3w’s and the Falken AT3w’s currently are in the lead. I’m also looking at what test results yield for the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac RT’s as they also come in a 255/80 17 and have a lot more siping than the last series of Duratracs. Thanks again for all that good info!

    Cheers

There was a tiny bit of rubbing on the front bumper when stock in reverse at full clocked turn...that was it. This will vary car to car based on alignment. After the lift there is no rubbing at any time under any condition. I will say that I did shave off a bit of the front bumper (same way the Pros come from the factory) and removed the front mud flaps (appearance).

Not to add another yet another option...but here ya go.

    Falken Wildpeak AT4W

The new AT4W's are about to drop. As long as the prices don't get silly these are worth heavy consideration.

Good to know about the lift. When the new tires go o. I’ll be putting the top hat spacer in. I’m hoping to not need to trim the front bumper of remove the mud flap as this is my wife’s daily for now and she doesn’t like me changing things. The AT4’s look great, I need to research them some more as I can’t notice much difference from the 3’s.

The trim is very minor and it's what is done at the port with all the TRP Pro models. Honestly if you don't say anything I'd bet nobody would ever notice.

As for the AT4W's it's a bunch of minor revisions for improvements. Looks like they changes the compound again because their mileage warranty is up 10,000 miles on the new tires as well. As long as the price isn't nuts these should be a homerun.

Just saw the AT4w specs released and they seem to be 10% heavier now than AT3w's but I don't see any significant improvements made other than more aggressive looking sidewall.

The added weight is probably due to the "3-ply DURASPEC Sidewall Technology" taken from the from their MT line as well as what looks to be deeper tread depths across much of the size offerings. I know the AT3W's had a wrap around side wall that wasn't full 3 ply but offered additional protections in the vulnerable area. It looks like they addressed this on the update since many touted that the KO2's advertised a 3 ply sidewall.

It may be that 3 play sidewall then. Across the sizes I was looking at (255/80, 285/70 and 285/75 all in E load) I see no tread depth difference but see significant weight increases like 6-7lbs per tire which is >10% increase. 65 lbs for a 285/70 for both C and E load is pretty damn heavy.

The AT4 in 31x10.5xR15 is nearly 7 lbs heavier than the same in K02. Too much.

    Hey big,

this might be a super dumb question but how are the at3w’s compares to stock tires on wet roads? I know the off road and snow are way better but wondering about the wet stuff. Thx.

I had great experiences. Great traction in wet weather. No complaints on my end. I’ll always run Falken WP’s.

Something seems odd with the Falken website. Not only are all the specs now the same for the AT3W and the AT4W but the item numbers are the same as well. I'm betting there's a mix up on their end.

I can't really comment on the stock tires in wet because I had them off in 500 miles. I can say the Falkens have handled all the wet conditions I've been in without issue, they're very confidence inspiring.

Yeah kinda tough to judge after 500 miles but I appreciate both of you guys letting me know about the wet performance. Not like we get a lot of rain in Cali but when it does rain it can be pretty slick from all the oils etc that have built up in the roads.

I posted this question in another thread because on the net all we read about is wet and snow, but what about heat:
For those of us in the Southwest, ie AZ and S California deserts, where snow and wet weather only happens on television shows, but where scalding heat in the Summer can melt just about anything including tires....what would your advise be for this climate?

Note: Big, I love that green color of your 4R!

The day I bought my 4R, it rained for the entire 2 hour ride home. The Grand Trek's were gone within 2 weeks. Doing 65 mph I could feel the tires losing traction. Replaced with Wildepeak AT3's. There isn't a comparison. The Grand Trek's suck. Period. I recommend the Wildepeak's 100%.

Same here ...no traction except my 2020 SR5 came with Bridgestone Dueler HT's. I dumped those within first 36k miles.
Waste of a tire but they were horrific in the snow, and I live in New England where it snows a lot........ so they had to go.

Yeah I looked at those also but they don’t come in 255/80 17 and the Wildpeaks seem to take the cake.
