It was a former Rental, California owned 43k miles. Carfax is showing minor damage to the rear previously before being CPO'd by Toyota. I live a few hours away from the dealer so I haven't checked it out in person yet. If anyone has any other leads on similar 4runners in Michigan feel free to send them my way.

Check for rust, especially on the frame.

Definitely will be checking. I plan on doing some kind of undercoating on whatever I buy.

Pictures don't show anything bad. I like this configuration with no sunroof and no third row seat. In person, take a close look at the tailgate. Lower the spare and examine the frame crossmember under the plastic rear bumper cover for any bad collision repair.

Rust won't be a concern at this age.

DO NOT buy a wreck 4runner that was a rental!!!!!! We have so many 4runners for sale right now that you can get a nicer truck that has been treated better!!!! With heated seats!!!!!

Go Toyota Owners App. Make an account. Add the VIN of the truck to your garage. Look at the maintenance history. Do this before you buy any 4runner/toyota

    Oooh look, another mod.....
A formal rental WITH accident history?

Bro, that's like marrying a stripper who has 3 kids, all with different daddies. Run away from that truck as fast as you can.

I figured Toyota's CPO warranty could offset some of the concern. I don't think it was an accident, they probably backed into something

Well, at the very least, for resale purposes a previous rental with a carfax accident history - however minor - is going to de-value that truck. I own a driving school and have bought previous rental cars for my fleet with no issue at all. YMMV.

Matick Toyota on M-59 in Clinton Township has a few used 4R on their lot rn. I was there yesterday.

Run away from it! Rental car priced at the absolute top of the price range and documented accident history.

You can get a new 2024 Off-Road with zero miles for only $5k-7k more.

submit your info and communicate via email for much better prices than what you see on their website

FWIW we just had $8300 worth of damage done to my Mazda3 and Carfax documented it as minor damage. Luckily it was all repaired correctly, but it was half the value of the car.

Most of us have told you to run away. It's your money and doesn't effect us either way. We are just trying to help you.

I have a bit of inside knowledge on how rentals are taken care of, and I would NOT buy one for more than 75% of private party value, and I sure as hell wouldn't pay dealer prices for one.

I hear ya man. At this point I'm looking for other ones. Definitely willing to travel for a good deal but my bank wants me looking in Michigan only. I could see if they'll let me shop out of state, or I'll just find financing somewhere else

The MSRP price for a 2024 Off-road with no added options is $45,945. Invoice will be at about $42k.

If you’re willing to travel, PM me and I’ll get you in contact with a dealer that will sell at invoice.

You won't find a flaming deal but perhaps you can look at CarMax. They ship stuff for prices that vary and take care of the state inspection and paperwork when bringing it into the state before you look at it. Watch out for rental and theft history but it says on the listing. I had one shipped from Kansas and one from New York before settling on the Kansas one. (albeit the NY one seemed like a rental despite the listing and had a shoddily repaired bumper.)

They also have a tool to let you exclude features (wish more auto listings had that feature) but sadly I don't think it lets you blanket exclude rental, theft histories.

I've bought both my used trucks out of state. I'd ask the Michigan Taco Forum on Tacomaworld if they know a good dealer that does MSRP.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/michigan-tacomas.26380/

Also, what about neighboring states? When I bought my trucks, USAA did not care what state I purchased them in. It took me about a year to find my taco and the same for my 4runner. GL OP!

There are a few dealers out there that are selling all trims except the "Pro" at invoice or close to invoice. Some will have one on the way and for some you have to put in a preference and wait.

The truck I initially posted was $38k out the door. A new 4R at invoice would be roughly the same price right? At least the SR5 would be I'm guessing

You would have to confirm the numbers directly with the dealer. My guesstimate for invoice price on a 2024 SR5 4WD (no additional options) would be about $40k-41k before any taxes, licensing, fees, etc.

Maybe starting around 40k (I have no idea how much invoice is) but taxes (6.25% here in TX) destination, title/licensing, will probably push that to the mid-40’s OTD

    MSRP for a ‘24 SR5 4WD is just a hair short of $44k now

I’d say if you can get that then yea, but YMMV. Hopefully invoice dealers also comes with no added accessories or packages since those add up fast.

If you only knew what my friends and I have done to rentals.
    • Offroading, no matter what type of vehicle? Check.
    • Brake tests at all speeds? Yes please.
    • Acceleration tests? Of course.
    • Spin outs in orchards, gravel, and parking lots? Definitely.
    • Burn outs if possible? Fun.
