I’ve got a 2000 4Runner 3.4L V6 auto 4wd that is having starting issues. New coils, wires, plugs, starter. Had the fuel line tested by the dealer lines are getting fuel. Just had the dealer swap the starter as well. Did plugs and wires and coils maybe 20k ago. Battery is fine. Ignition is cranking sounds like it’s going to start but just keeps cranking. Only happening every once in a while and it’s not a consistent issue. And doesn’t seem to be getting more often. Seems to happen more often if we had just drove the truck and had it off for maybe a min or 3 to run onto the store or fill up gas. Any ideas on where I should dive into next?

Why would you replace the starter? That makes no sense. It would have saved you money if you found a shop that actually diagnoses the problem before loading the parts canon.

Did you test\replace the crank or cam sensors? Those actually tell the ECU that the engine is turning and in time and ready to be started.

I was listing things that I’ve replaced over 70k miles of maintenance, not replaced for this starting issue. I only recently replaced the starter because it was starting to act up. Fixed the major starting problem. Not occasionally it won’t turn over. I’ve got no codes for the sensors being bad. Don’t those normally throw a check engine light?

On other cars i have had the issue, they didn't throw a code. Haven't had a bad cam/crank sensor issue on a Toyota yet.

I’ll check those sensors. I’ve read that could be the issue elsewhere too.

Took throttle body off cleaned it and removed the IAC valve and they where both very dirty put everything back to together and my idle in park and neutral is now higher. I start the truck up and it’s at 1700 rpm consistently. Will randomly drop to around 1k and then jump back up to 1700. I noticed that the truck won’t start after i turn it off when the RPM’s are that high. So I am thinking that’s my starting issue. So I need to figure out the high idle issue. I reset the EFI fuse as well still same 1700 rpm issue.

Bad idle could be a few things... bad IAC, a bad TPS or vacuum leaks to name the most common three.
