    That seems like a good point. Let’s see what they do in the Middle East and Africa. Obviously there is plenty of cheap fuel in the Middle East and I would think no real focus a green movement and obviously harsh conditions for vehicles.

    You could be right Deux. I don’t follow the sales stats. I am from metro Detroit like you and just used to see more muscle cars around.

    I could care less about Ford Motor Co and what they sell. They screwed my Dad after 40 years of service and I cannot condone that.

    My son had a Turbo 4 Ford Mustang, and ended up trading it in for a V8 Mustang. In someways the Turbo 4 was a PITA. Premium fuel only. Start the car and let it idle for at least a minute, preferably longer, when first starting out to let the engine and turbo warm up. He much prefers his V8.

    Same with my ‘84 Supra, almost. Flat, straight highway in, I forget, Montana or Wyoming. Took it to 120, was still climbing but slowly. 130 was probably where it was headed. As you say, the car felt relaxed and steady, not squirrelly at all. Toyota nailed it with that car.

    To Toyota’s credit, I think they dragged feet more than just about every other automaker when it comes to switching to turbo engines. People keep clamoring for more power, and automakers have to maintain a CAFE standard. So smaller engines with turbos answer both demands. I know people claim that turbos are reliable, and I’m sure that’s true to a point. But given the choice of a naturally aspirated V6 or turbo 4 or 6, I’ll take the NA engine every time.

    Most modern 4 bangers sound like rattle traps especially due to direct injection with maybe the exception of Honda products. It will be fine though as Toyota is not new to 4 bangers or turbocharging. 2JZ bro! :rolleyes:

    Or better yet a NA V8. They are a dieing breed most of the lineup already moved on to turbo V6. This is my motivation looking for a Lexus IS500.

    Probably my last chance for NA V8. Very low volume car which is what is taking time finding the color i want. Gave up on increasing power on the 4r and will solve it with different vehicle.

    This is why I bought my 4Runner. I knew I wanted one but want the legendary V6. This was before the 2024 was confirmed and there was rumors of a new 4Runner for 2024. Even the sales manager I know bought a 2023 just in case.

    If I won the lottery I would swap a 5.7L into my 4Runner. That would be the perfect vehicle for me.

    I never owned a Supra from the 80/90's. But a friend in Houston, TX had one I was able to drive. That was a FUN car to drive. That Inline-6 mated to the manual transmission really worked well together. Toyota got that one right.

    My roommate and I were yelling at each other, just having a normal conversation, after the 135mph mark.

    We put over 1,000 miles on a rental car in like a day and a half. We returned the car early because my roommate couldn't afford to spend any more on gas.

    When I was driving the company car, I swear I could watch the fuel gauge drop as I hauled ass down the road.

    I once got passed whilst doing an indicated 137mph in an area of the US that will not be named, even though it's probably well past the statute of limitations.

    The Raptor is a truly embarrassing vehicle.

    Mustangs are fun - enjoyed the one I owned.

    I've had two non station wagons pass me in Germany. I had a rental Skodal Octavia pegged somewhere in the 120mph range, that was some sketchy fun then a Ferrari came out of no where to let me know I am a little boy. Got passed by an M5 with a roll cage near the 'Ring at some ungodly speed.

    But what's below it to clean after the removal of it?

    Yeah the Raits ride, and Bros and the other reviewers have to be careful what they say. TFL seems to be more forthcoming with criticism. Time will tell how thing go.

    Yes spin-on filter. There's a little spout underneath to direct the oil flow. It's positioned sufficiently forward to not dump oil over the electric steering rack.

    The 4th gen Taco gets an electric radiator fan too, so the only things driven by the serpentine belt are the water pump and A/C compressor.

    I wouldn't sweat it. Even with the V6, the Taco sucks for towing. The 4Runner is even worse for towing.

    But honestly for normal DD or even off-roading (without insane mods that add crazy weight and stress on the truck itself) the 4-banger should be fine.

    I don't see Toyota pumping out some shit engine that will harm their reputation. They're not Ford and GM.

    I lucked out. It was certified with 5000 miles on the clock. The GM of the dealership purchased new. Saved a couple thousand off msrp and got an extra 2 years/unlimited mile warranty.

    To get this back on topic - Toyota/lexus has been conservative and most of their buyers appreciate that approach. The hesitation to go full electric shows they are trying to hold on to their strategy. I hope that the new turbo 4s and the hybrid variants prove to be as reliable. Unfortunately cost to maintain will be higher with all the new tech. I’ll be holding onto my 4R until it goes to the grave. I’ll let the verdict come in before adopting.

    For what it's worth, a look on Club Lexus (NX) and Toyota Nation (Highlander) don't show any issues with the 2.4L T24A so far. The Highlander had a hesitation issue addressed by a software update through T-SB-0087-23.

    What are you basing this on?

    I have never towed with a 3rd gen Taco, but I have to assume the fake Atkinson 3.5 isn't any any better than the 2nd gen was. And, my 4Runner is better than my 2nd gen Taco was.

    As far as the 2.4 turbo, it's going to have much better pulling power than either one, based on the specs.
