Looking at picking up an OEM wheel (with OEM TPMS sensor) so I can include the spare in my tire rotations for my 2018 OR. How can I get the car to recognize the new sensor and accept 5 sensors instead of 4? Thx

Or...does my current steel spare wheel already have a recognized TPMS sensor?

I have an old-school valve stem on my spare OEM Snowflake wheel. 2018 SR5. I use a tire gauge to check pressure.
My factory spare didn't have a TPMS valve.

Ok...do you do 5 tire rotations? Does the non-TPMS wheel confuse the TPMS system? Thx

Yes, I do 5 tire rotates. Dash light has never come on. If the TPMS is confused, I don't know about it. When I bought my snowflake spare wheel, I was concerned about the sensor being absent. Been a non-issue.

Good question. ‘21 TRDP here with similar question/issue.

I bought a 5th TRDP wheel for my spare. Had a flat so put the new spare on. TPWS didn’t like something bc the tire light never turned off. tried reset numerous times over a couple of weeks but no joy. Repaired the flat and put it back on the road and put the spare back in its slot, hit reset and all good after a bit of driving. No yellow tire warning light.

Guessing my spare doesn’t have a tpm in it, thus the problem.

When all is right, the tire pressure display on info/mfd screen does not show pressure of spare. Wondering if I’d be ok installing a tpm on spare for future use and allowing me putting it in rotation without warning light or if having 5 tpm’s would confuse the system.

Is this kind of your quandry? If not, I’ll relocate my post to avoid hijacking your tread.

My '18 SR5 doesn't have the the Four-Wheel-Tire-Pressure-Display. It only shows the Low Tire icon. I have to get the tire gauge to find the low tire. 4R's made after '20 have upgraded electronics. I have no idea what Toyota did to the TPMS with that upgrade.

Stop at a tire store and see if they can help with a TPMS for your spare.

    Thanks for that link.

I believe I need a TPM module for my new spare and can then activate it by using “Reset” option in MFD at the TPWS menu when putting the spare into action upon rotation.

The group knowledge on this forum has always been really helpful. Some of these issues are not always “in the manual!”
