Never had a 4R before…heard they were gonna ruin them in 2025…so I snagged a 2023 in that Magnetic Gray color and threw some Gunmetal Gray TRD Pro wheels and some new Falken A/Ts on.

Man, what an improvement over my 2020 Tacoma TRD OffRoad truck. The 4R is an incredible vehicle…my favorite thing is how that back window rolls down. The simple things…

Looks great! What size tire did you end up going with? I'm going to be picking up my TRD OR in a couple weeks (before they are jacked up in 2025!) and Falkens are going on it immediately. I can't decide if I'm staying with the stock size or going with the 275's.

The gunmetal gray wheels compliment that MGM color nicely. Welcome to the forum!

Grey vehicles don't do it for me in general, but man that first photo you posted is sick, like liquid metal!

I also love the gunmetal wheels, I tried to get them with my t4r but it didn't really work out. Maybe some day.

The MGM is a wonderful color. Too bad it was discontinued on the 4Runner.

I went with a Falken 265/70R/17. Tire is called the Rubitrek A/T. I am very happy with them as far as appearance and ride goes. They're 55K rated. With the 4R having such a. short wheelbase (compared to a Taco), I thought the 265 was more than enough. Here'a side view to give ya a better idea...

I agree. I actually drove about 70 miles to get this, and there was only one left. The new '24 color they replaced it with (Underground)....although it seems to be popular, I am more of a traditionalist, and really love this Magnetic Gray. It just seems very "classic" and that's what I was looking for for buying this "old" new vehicle in the first place. I was super worried about Toyota taking away the sliding rear window (Toyota engineers on YouTube saying it most likely was gone), adding start-stop to them, taking away the V-6, etc. I'm sure many of you had the same concerns with these new 2025 models coming out in the near future...

I tried going 275 Toyos when I picked up mine but they were backordered at the time. Some people say not to bother with 275 because it isn't a big enough difference from stock but to me it's a subtle difference. My next set will probably be 275's, still trying to decide on wheels but I'm not going factory TRD Pros because they're only 7" wide.

My now ex-wife has a '19 Tacoma TRD Off Road and I find my 4runner to be night and day different (granted, the last time I drove the Tacoma was Feb '21 and I didn't get my T4R until January of this year). I saw her Tacoma the other day and it's just gross all the stickers and cosmetic mods (she does have a Prinsu rack that will never have anything on it...she wanted one before but I said no, guess I ended up paying for that dumb thing anyway in the end. * - I say it's dumb because she will never use it, if you have one and use it, it's not dumb.)

Nice ride, that first pic is awesome. I'm really considering gunmetal wheels on my black 4runner (I refuse to do the blackout thing, I think it is overdone but that's my opinion, for those who like it, as long as it works for you that's all that matters).

Yeah I am not a fan of the blackout thing either...a little bit of old school chrome isn't a bad thing. I just don't like how some auto manufacturers make your front end look like a set of braces (like Ford trucks lol). And yes, not a fan of tons of decals and aftermarket stuff either. I'm a simple guy. I like stuff basically stock for the most part. Hence why I love the current 4R in the first place (simple and works). Thanks for the kind comments, sir...

I agree. I actually had a few Tacos the past couple years. In all honesty, they ride horribly compared to the 4R (both had TRD OffRoad Premium package for fair comparison purposes). In addition, the 4R having a shorter wheelbase turns much easier, I love having all the "usable space" in the back unlike a truck which rarely gets used as a truck (for my purposes). My only mistake with the 4R was not getting one ten years ago. Absolutely love this thing...

Side note: I am a retired police officer and I do photography as a "side gig"...so here's a little shot of the 4R parked in Historical Zoar, OH right before Christmas...

I have an MGM ORP and have been looking at the Pro wheels. I have been looking at the matte black but the gunmetal looks really nice now that I see it on one. I have a decision to make when I look at getting the wheels.

Yeah the reason I went with the GunMetal was because (like myself in the past), the black TRD Pro wheels are entirely too commonly used on 4R / Tacos. I think the GunMetal Pro wheels blend in really nice with the chrome trim, the headlight bezels, front and rear silver facia, etc. Black wheels (from what I saw) would "clash" with this Magnetic Gray paint scheme...just my two pennies. We all view things differently...

My concern when getting the gunmetal ones was they would be too light but turns out they are just the right color. I am more than happy with mine.

Wait until the deals come out and shop online with dealerships and look around as they are all different when it comes to pricing.
