I had these tires in the past on a FJ cruiser and Wrangler Rubicon. I really liked the way they handled and looked. About ready to go to 285s with OME 2” lift, and have been debating tires. Was going to go with Toyo Open country AT3s, but keep coming back to the Firestone destinations ATs. Last good experiences plus around 3.5 pounds lighter per tire than the toyos. Weight does make a difference in performance.

I'm the OP. I switched to BFG KO2's this time around.

The KO2's are heavier, louder, and not quite as sure footed in the rain (although not as bad as previous versions of BFG A/T's).

I'll definitely be going back to the Destination AT's after these KO2's wear out.

For what I do, drive in the rain, dirt roads, over some muddy grassy fields at times, gravel roads and an occasional light overland trip - a since is my daily driver, the Destinations seem perfect. Much better than the stock Dunlop’s. Had Michilins 285s before as well, in a jeep, but they only come e rated and wayyyy too stiff. Got rid of them less than a month (tire barn let me trade them back).

if I did the math right, a 3 pound gain or loss on a tire/wheel weight equals a loss or gain of 5-7% performance. Not just mpg, but acceleration and braking.

I don't think they make these anymore, now. They're on the AT2 version. I would imagine the second version is better than the original, though they look even less aggressive.

I'm going to be needing tires soon, and the logical part of my brain tells me that a tire like this will perfectly suit my needs.

It's really going to be tough to not go with something like a Toyo RT Trail or Mickey Baja Boss AT though, they just look so cool.

It's too bad that the thing that looks cool and the thing that perfectly suits one's needs are seldom the same.

Yes, I think you're right that the original A/T's are no longer available and it's just the AT2's.

If I remember correctly, the only real difference was slightly more tread on the sidewall of the AT2's.

Even the tread is a little different, this is the AT2 tread. Looks different from the one that you originally posted in here, the lugs look like a slightly different shape.. I do like all the siping, it almost looks like a winter tire. Probably great in the snow.

That's why I bought them. I really should of weighed them to verify.

Good. Got over 10k on them. I've done a ton of highway and a decent amount of dirt / mud. Some snow. Rain. Standing water. Overall I'm pleased and have no complaints. They seem surefooted on everything and are not excessively loud at highway speeds.

Probably a slightly better AT than the Destination IMO.
