Upper ball joint slipped boot

Can a new upper ball joint boot be replaced as my passenger boot has slipped down about 1/2 way from the top. I zip tied the top of the boot after pushing it up as far as I could stretch it back. The boot seems to have plenty of clean grease still inside. Can this boot be replaced or fixed?

The wire ring threads on like a key ring.

You have to separate the ball joint from the spindle, so have a replacement cotter pin on hand.

 

So when I separate the upper ball joint from the spindle how hard will it be to press in back in? Never separated a ball joint before but I do very much want to do it and learn how.

Boy and I tried unsuccessfully separating a ball joint on a Acura this summer. Destroyed the ball joint in the process. Definitely make sure you have the right tooling. A cheap joint removal tool from Harbor Freight won’t cut it. Voice of experience. Toyota’s may be easier?

 

Ya man, this one can be done. how much dirt enters the socket in there before the fix will determine its resurrection longevity

 

After you remove the ball joint nut, thread it backward onto the stud pin to create a large striking surface on the bottom. Put a 6-8" long socket extension bar against it and hit with a sledge.

With a stock spindle, a usually works. However, it will no longer fit after you weld on spindle gussets.

 

if you using ball joint separator screw type, do not try separate it by tightening screw only, but create tension and then give it a short and fast knock with hammer at the side of UCA

In all seriousness, you raise a good point regarding about and a boot. I could see that becoming a confusing circular conversation between two redneck Canadians. Aboot is definitely more of an eastern Canadian pronunciation. But apparently my family in Worshington State think I say about a little bit like aboot.
