Hi all. I have a 2022 TRD ORP, and replaced my headlights with GTR Carbide ones. I’m looking for a way to defeat the OEM DRL feed, as it is a pulse modulation of the old high beam bulb which was halogen. Currently causes the new high beam be on and flicker. This new headlight has a separate power feed for the LED DRL, so I don’t need the OEM DRL power at all. While I have seen a bending of a pin in a relay for 2020 models or older, that doesn’t seem to be the same on the newer models. Any advice is appreciated.

I think you can turn off DRLs in the headunit. Or just unplug the DRL connector. 2022+ are all bi-LED with a separate halogen DRL. They don’t have PWM. 2021s do unless it’s a Limited or Pro.

I thought about the head unit access, but no options come up under vehicle configuration. Maybe because it’s a Canadian unit where all cars must have DRLs as part of regulation? Regarding relay or pulling a fuse, I didn’t see any designation for DRL in fuse box under the hood or the cabin. All Canadian models have LED low beam, with a halogen high beam which is either PMW or low power to the halogen to act as DRL.

Any advise to build something or modify something to block the PMW / low power, but permit high power through for when high beam is actually triggered? Maybe a relay where the trigger is connect to the driver’s side high beam fuse, and then that allows the circuit to close for the power to both headlight high beam LEDs? Thinking out loud here.

Didn’t read your signature details close enough to see Canada. My bad. So you could build a harness with a relay that is low beam positive to pin 85, ground 86, DRL/high beam to 30, and 87 as your high beam out. Or you could try pulling pin 33 on connector FA2. It should be under the kick panel on driver’s side. Or pin 25 on the main body ECU F101 plug. Both should be light green wires

Sorry, didn’t see additional responses till now. Where is this located? Behind main engine bay fuse box, towards firewall?

I ordered one, but it doesn’t give access to it in Canada (confirmed with Carista), so I returned it.

I have these lights and love them! I can also confirm that the procedure to disable the DRLs by bending pin 2 does indeed work (I have a 2023 Limited). The DRL relay is located in a smalled sub-panel between the fuse box and the firewall in the engine compartment.

Canada must not allow that option to turn on / off the DRL in the infotainment system!
    Vehicle lighting is the location.

If bending the pins is the only solution, It worked on my 2014 prior to the option being offered in settings.

Here is the original posting on earlier models:

Less destructive would be removing the pin from the BCM harness. Can always add it back later

OP didn't ask for the least destructive way, they asked for how to do it for a 2020+ Canadian 4Runner. For the Canadian models (mine at least), there is no option in the radio to disable DRLs.

Also, this mod doesn't say to break off the pin, just bend it out of the way. IF the OP ever decides to put it back to factory, all they would need to do is straighten out the pin. IF it happens to break off, then buy a new relay. Messing with the BCM harness could cause a whole mess of trouble if something doesn't go as planned.

Hardly difficult to remove one pin and very little risk. You aren’t adding any pins that could short it out

I previously misread this post . I went through this today (while trying to do something else) and found the this relay panel. Because have the SwitchPro it’s buried under my set up. In any case, bent the pin and worked perfectly. I should make sure I read this stuff when not on the can.
