Looking for feedback on how well integrated the supercharger feels with the throttle response. I had a maggie on my 2017 6.2 Yukon Denali and the throttle response in that one wasn’t very linear at all. You could really feel the boost kick in and it made a for very jerky acceleration at times. It just felt a little awkward. I should add that the 6.2 in general I think is the culprit.

With the 4Runner is the boost kicking in very noticeable or is the power delivery pretty smooth? Was really hoping it would have a better integrated feel.

I had it on my 2010 Tacoma and driving was no different from stock. It actually improved drivability because less downshifting was needed to accelerate. Even using cruise didn't require any downshifting most times.

I've had mine for a short time now, but can say power delivery is incredibly smooth, even when you floor it. The tune is honestly so mild that it really feels like a natural progression for the motor and trans in terms of power delivery. I think the mild tune is a detractor for some, but I find it to be well suited for the vehicle. Someone else once described it as the way it should have come from the factory, which I very much agree with.

I dunno I think thats the whole point of the S/C.

To feel the MFer when you lay into it. I loved my TBSS when that thing pinned you to the seat. Though it did have a 3200 torque converter and a cam.

For a race car, I agree. But for a vehicle where driveability is the big draw, I really want that smooth linear power delivery. Like I said, the magnuson on my Denali really had to be managed by your right foot and just really pushed me away from it.

really appreciate the feedback guys! That’s exactly what I was hoping to hear.

This is exactly what I want. The feel of a factory integrated superchargers that just delivers consistent power.

I got a SC on mine. My experience is that it gives you the extra HP but on a region, on a PowerBand section between 50 and 65mph, there you can feel it. It has been tuned conservatively so that you don't abuse the PowerBand and mess other components. I think the unit can deliver more with additional tunning but I think at that point why mess with that, just get another vehicle if more power is what you are looking for. It is a 4R after all not a race vehicle. My 2c.

Usually the roots style blower gives better power from the jump and just builds. Centrifugal blowers I believe deliver power much differently and most people will prefer the roots style blower and its power delivery for just a daily driver style vehicle. That low end consistent power delivery seems to be the appeal of the Maggie.

What did you think of your 6.2 Yukon? I'm looking for a truck and a 2019 gmc 1500 6.2 came up for sale locally(off topic)

Loved the Yukon outside of the transmission. It started giving me problems at around 45k miles. I never drove the truck hard but that transmission in the 2017 was a huge weak link. Was the 8 speed. I believe the 10 speed was marginally better but not sure. If I had it to do over, I would have left the supercharger off of the 6.2. It just made for a driving experience that really had to be managed by your right foot. Once the transmission problems started it was very noticeable and annoying. Would hold shifts too long and just didn’t want to shift properly. But vehicle wise, I never had a single problem. It was a great truck. Just doomed by the powertrain. And I was always nervous of the displacement on demand meeting its demise.

I was running the stock Magnuson tune. Transmission tuning is extremely difficult for those transmissions so the only tuning was to the engine. No trans tuning. DOD was disabled but that still leaves the crappy lifters in the motor. It helps some but the weak point is the lifter itself that seems to grenade at random for most. Even if the DOD has been tuned out. Only real way to fix it would be to disassemble and replace the valvetrain completely.

Don’t get me wrong, the truck was extremely quick and a blast to drive but it did take me a while to adapt to the way it drove. It had a very noticeable on switch for the boost. Once it overcame the bypass it was almost like a mini shot of nitrous. lol

So I will add this. The Yukon Maggie had a bypass valve that kept the truck out of boost until past a certain load on the motor. Once you broke that threshold the boost kicked on almost instantly. It doesn’t appear that the 4Runner setup works that way. Seems like it is a straight integrated from the jump system that builds as the rpm builds. So in boost almost all the time but it starts low and builds psi as the motor spins. No mention of a bypass on the Magnuson site that I can find for the 4Runner.

I think my bigger concern will be finding an installer I trust to install it. I really want somebody who has done multiple 4Runners so they know what to expect. If anybody has an installer you would recommend in the Alabama, Tennessee, Georgie, etc area post it in here. I am tempted to drive it out west to Phoenix to Westcott if I can’t find somebody I can trust.

You could try Magnuson, ask for installers for your region and get references.

That was my first stop but not very successful. Knew the installer they recommended for my area and not a fan. They did give me a couple of good references to Toyota dealers in Mississippi who do quite a few of these a month so that may be my route. Extremely expensive though. $2300 for the install.

Not opposed to traveling but that’s definitely a long way away. I had thought about heading out to Westcott Designs in Phoenix as well. Would really like to find somewhere close just in case there was an issue to pop up.

This whole issue of reliable installers is a problem for much of the aftermarket components. The SC, Air lockers, even maintenance item, all drive us from basic consumers to competent DYI’ers.

Couldn’t agree more here. When he offered their “recommended installer” I was immediately concerned. That option is never going to happen. I will say that the Toyota dealership in Hattiesburg Mississippi was extremely helpful and offered a bunch of information and things to consider. He even threw out all of the problems they saw early on when th edit was first released and how they had been corrected. That made me feel much better. Really great guy and I will more than likely use them if I can’t find somebody closer. Would love to do it myself but I just don’t want to go that route.

    Why not install it yourself?

But if your serious about the supercharger look up ott or yotawerx. Their tunes really wake it up.

Have already been on the phone with OTT. Their headquarters is in Birmingham which is only 1.5 hours away. I was hoping they would have an installer recommendation but they didn’t. lol. But he did stress to find somebody who does these regularly because he has seen too many come in with issues.
