Replacement Fog Lights…?

Wanting to replace my lackluster factory OEM fog-lights in favor of something that actually lights the road for improved visibility and safety.

Any recommendations…?

Is THIS bright enough for you?

 

I would leave them alone or upgrade to the LED then get real lights behind the grill or elsewhere so you won't be limited on size. That's what I'm going anyway.

 

Dioxide Dynamics SS3 are generally considered thr best fog light upgrade. Yellow is best for fog and rain.

Don't waste money on drop in LED bulbs.

 

Dammit.

^^^ This. I have the Diode Dynamics SS3 Max fogs in selective yellow. They're DD's top of the line in the SS3 lineup and you just won't find anything better. That said, the Sport and Elites are the foundation of the line and even they are a ton better than the OEM fogs. The Pro is next up the line and they're pretty awesome in their own right.

 

This right here. DD SS3 Pro’s are amazing. I live in FLA. where monsoon rains are regular occurrences. My pro’s are a godsend when visibility is severely compromised. They drown out my headlights when they’re on. I would have opted for the Max’s, but after learning that they get hot enough to melt snow and ice, I was concerned that FLA summer weather might be a problem for them, thus I opted for the pro’s and am extremely happy.

Are the DD SS3 Pro’s direct OEM plug-n-play replacements?

Most of my driving is in the dark in traffic so when my headlights are on my OEM fog-lights are on. Will I be ok running the Pro’s in traffic or is it going to get me shot by oncoming traffic or folks in front of me?

Lastly, reputable source to purchase from and what am I looking at cost wise?

 

The Pros have the most light spill of the SS3s. Save the money and get the Elites/Sports or pony up the extra for Maxs. You can buy directly from Diode Dynamics. $220 for Elites. $580-620 for Maxs. I have one 4R with Pros and one with Maxs. The extra spill on the pros is noticeable

I have Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro in white and they are awesome. I enjoy blinding Tesla drivers who always drive with their brights on.

 

Yep the pros have some glare, but they are listed as SAE compliant. I treat them as I do a high beam and just turn them off for oncoming traffic if I’m using them outside of foggy or snowy conditions. They’re a great wide cornering light and double as a great off-road light. A great “all in one” type solution, but you do need to be mindful of other drivers imo.

If you can afford them, the Max’s have a much better cut off if you plan to run them in traffic, but they get pretty hot.

 

Another vote for DD SS3s. They are real solid and an easy swap.

 

When did it become a competition to see who can have the brightest lights? Geezus. You all drive modern vehicles. It's not like you've got some 1982 halogen bulbs in there. They come from the factory set up properly. It used to be common courtesy to NOT blind oncoming drivers. Now it's who can be the worst offender and get away with it. Fully awaiting the replies with every goddam excuse as to why "I NEED BRIGHTER LIGHTS!" This should be fun...

 

Hopefully people properly aim them so they’re positioned to highlight the pavement and not blind other drivers. I did and they work great. No one flashes us and everyone is fine. Appreciate your language, brashness, rudeness, insults to other responsible members, and flipping out over nothing that involves you. Just glad I’m not your neighbor.

 

The problem is most people don't take the time to properly adjust and aim. And, thank you to those that do.

The whole point would be a very low, wide beam with a sharp cutoff that won't bug anyone (unless they're on the wrong side of a hill of course). I'm leaning towards the whatever the cheapest DD 4-led one is due to popular opinion and the fact that the higher end ones seem to get hot and dim down to the same level.

Also, play nice or the headlight nanny is gonna show up.

 

The previous owner installed OEM LED fogs on my SR5P. They are very bright. I might get the laminx for them to actually help in the situations I'd actually need them to work.

 

+1 for the Lastfits for a budget friendly and out performing (over OEM) upgrade. I like being able to switch from white to amber on the fly.

 

I opted for the DD SS3 Sport, which are a big improvement over the halogens that came oem on my 4R. I don't need anything better.

You might like the DD Elites.

Picked up a set of OEM LEDs on Black Friday for $80. 10 min mod and looks great.

 

As stated above, the DD SS3’s are SAE compliant and they should be aimed properly both for effect and courtesy for oncoming drivers. They are plug and play and it takes no time to get the proper position/aim.

Oh, and edited to add I purchased from 4Runner Lifestyle during a sale. I got the Pro’s for the price for the Sport’s. I am extremely pleased with the purchase and the performance.

 

This is an incorrect statement. Virtually all well designed and manufactured LED pods have some sort of thermal management built in, so they reduce power slightly if / when hot. If the truck is moving though, air moving over the heat sinks is generally enough to minimize this effect. And even if you're just sitting still, the amount of output degradation is minimal at best.

 

I got concerned about the heat with the Max’s. Especially the passenger side with the drip cover on the back of the light. Max’s get insanely hot.
