If you live in WI, the Polaris is easier to wheel.

Probably trails that don't allow cars (off-highway vehicles only). Aka OHV trails

 

Understandable, I still wouldn't pay $47k for a SxS, that's just pure insanity.

 

Oh, I wouldn't either. Heck, I had the same thought when these were $25k less than a decade ago.

If I had nice OHV trails nearby, I'm pretty sure I'd have a few thousand in a proper dirt bike, not one of these monstrosities anyway.

If I had a farm + someone who wants to ride along, I'd be looking more in the Pioneer 500 to 700 range. But I'm also a Honda powersports fanboy.

 

I'd much rather spend $50k for a full street-legal vehicle than a stripped out vehicle that isn't street legal in the majority of states. There's no good logic to buying this thing.

But I agree, even $20k for a SxS or ATV is wayyyyyyy too much as well. At that price point, get a beater Wrangler or Cherokee and have fun.

 

Correct. There are a lot more ATV/UTV trails in Wisconsin. And, some of the ATV/UTV crowd tends to think the trails that do allow road legal vehicles are supposed to be their trails, also.

I still manage to find plenty of fun spots to take the 4Runner, though.

 

My father in law bought a $40k SxS. It's got nav, 360 cameras, stereo system, A/C and on and on. Even with all that it still has a playskool interior and isn't road legal. I don't get these things at all.

 

People spend more on boats, travel trailers, etc.

They're all expensive, recreational toys.

Boating, camping, and off-roading are all forms of entertainment.

Of course, but my point is, a Wrangler IS a recreational toy that is a full road-legal vehicle with all kinds of safety features that you can use every single day, and as shown in the video, seems like it's more capable than that Polaris. I'm sorry but anyone that buys these dumb expensive SxS's lack critical thinking skills and need their IQ checked the only smart ones here are the Polaris execs laughing all the way to the bank from their crazy high profits...

I wanna get a used ATV or SxS in the next couple years, but I ain't paying those crazy new prices

 

He has a 1/4 mile driveway that gets snow sometimes, so he bought it to plow it. Keep in mind his daily is a Silverado. So yes, the drugs haha

 

I have a feeling it would be cheaper to hire someone to plow it for him even if he were to pay for decades. So yup, he's probably smoking mushroom-laced weed

 

To be fair, I think that's a lousy example of a S×S. I suppose I don't really see the purpose of an expedition vehicle that isn't street legal, either.

OTOH, some might question the logic of buying a $40K+ on a 4Runner and beating it up on the trail, but here we are.

One nice thing about a dedicated off-road toy is knowing that you still have a ride home if it breaks.

Side note: I wouldn't want to daily drive a Jeep, personally. I'd probably only own one as a second vehicle.

 

LOL. The ATV/UTVcrowd generally seems to have lots of opportunity for use up north. That seems to be the only place where they would make sense to me…to be somewhere where they could be used easily. However, it still seems like it would be a very expensive hobby limited-use vehicle compared to a similarly priced Jeep that you could use anywhere and whenever.

I do like some of the ones that look like dune buggies, but the small wheels/tires keep me from actually wanting one. Is that a legality thing with the small tires?

 

I mean not me personally no I don't wanna beat the living fuck out of my 4Runner, that's why I wanna get a beater ATV or SxS for that. Point is, there's not logic in buying a stripped out, unreliable vehicle that's as expensive as something you can use on a daily basis.

Agree with you. But I would even go further… I don’t think it makes sense to buy a UTV using the justification that you don’t want to “beat” on your DD. Not with today’s UTVs prices.…even possibly used.

To avoid causing 15 or 20k in damage your daily, it doesn’t make sense to buy a different vehicle for 10,20, or 50k. For crying out loud, they cost the same as a nice 4runner…so why would anyone want to beat on a UTV that expensive?

Of course, the answer is to use the vehicle within it’s capability, don’t abuse, and use it like you still owe the bank.

 

Eh, just another thing rich folks can buy for use on their properties and on the trail where their full-size pickups won't fit or would get scratched - and if you bust something you can still tow it home. I bet it'll be a hoot to drive but I don't know if I'd necessarily poke fun at it over horses, boats, $100k+ cars. $50k doesn't matter too much with deep enough pockets.

There's no logic in any kind of recreation. It's entertainment. People spend all kinds of money on things they don't actually need.

 

Or, maybe buy a vehicle that's designed for recreational use and use it for recreational purposes.

 

I think I've seen some of these with 32" tires. With the added suspension travel, and small size and light weight, it's like having a little trophy truck.

I don't think they would be great for the type of off-roading we typically do (especially since it seems to rain on almost every trip). It's just a different type of entertainment.

 

I'm a Honda Fan too BUT my 2011 Polaris Sportsman 500HO Carbureted blows my buddies 2019 Honda Foreman 500 EFI away. Now I'm looking to get back into Superbike (CBR1000RR) riding again just can't get into the HD Dyna Super Glide feel. I'd buy one of these IF I were to get away from my ATV. Wonder what the Sticker price these days??
