Haha, yes! I'd love a lower crawl gear though, that would allow enough engine braking to not have to ride the brakes so much.

They are probably inexperienced with Toyota trucks and will probably cut your pinch welds with an angle grinder, as it's done on Jeeps to fit 38s. On Toyotas it weakens the cab structure in the area and will likely cause water leaks.

C4 Fab is finalizing their 4Runner 35" kit much like they already have for the Tacoma. I can't wait for all these Instagram "Off Roaders" get their hands on those setups.

^The "kit" consists of what, a cab mount relocation and high-clearance fender liners, packaged together with greater profit markup?

People here talk as if 35s are overkill. The truth is when you put on 35s, in the first couple of months you'll relish the massive increase in capability over 33s on the trail. Then you start to notice their limitations and begin to plan for 37s...

Nitto Recon Grappler offers a 37x11.5-17 pizza cutter size for easier fitment :gossip: so you may be able to avoid the large body lift seen on this build:

I would not say that they are overkill, so much as I would say that they are overkill for a lot of people's use.

I would love to move up to 35's next, but it's an expensive endeavor to do everything right. I have pretty much decided, though, that if I end up keeping this one forever, it will end up on 35's most likely.

They are like KO2s, decent in all terrains. And Grabber is a true 35 inch tire, KO2 is not. I run them on my Ram, I like them

35s look cool but you are cooking your transmission and drive line each time you drive and massively shortening the lifespan of it. If I ever needed or wanted 35s or bigger I would be in a Jeep

Overheating of engine and transmission is common in Jeeps too when you go bigger than 35

Nah the drivetrain can handle 35s as long as you don't have a front locker (or know when not to use it...). ECGS provides warranty on regeared 8" front diffs when paired with up to 35" tires.

Jeeps can be optioned with 35s stock now (Rubicon X package) and is standard with the V8 version. I would say about half the JL and JK Wranglers I see on the highway in my daily commute are on 35" or larger tires. It's pretty mainstream now.

The X3 is marketed as a mud-terrain tire and the pictures show no siping. I would be concerned with hydroplaning on pavement with standing water (known issue with other mud-terrains like the Goodyear MT/R). Is the X3 giving you satisfactory braking performance on wet roads on your Ram?

Don't worry about a tire being a "true" 35", since they all flatten a bit once you put the vehicle's weight on them.

Just thinking out loud for general discussion. My credentials are largely from watching people break shit on youtube, so most of my thoughts come from that…

When I went to 285/70s, my first thought was that it felt like I added a permanent amount of weight to the vehicle due to the effective gearing change. The difference feels similar to what pulling around a trailer with 500-800lbs on it would feel. The engine and transmission really can’t tell the difference between larger tires or extra vehicle weight. This extra “virtual” weight that comes from the gearing change will lead to marginal loss of lifespan (at least) for my transmission. Now imagine 35s without regearing…that will shorten the lifespan of the transmission down to Chrysler levels of time before the clutches are worn. But if you regear, to make the transmission work as hard as stock, then you’re good.

The rest of the driveline will work just fine, but it will break much easier if you do off-road it hard. Stock axles, driveshafts, and U joints are the same, but larger tires are basically making it so there is a larger lever on them. There is more capacity to snap things, like a longer breaker bar on a bolt. And any mistakes with lockers will not be forgiven.

I just saw a poor Lc200 on 4wd24/7 break an front intermediate shaft at the splines inside the front diff , and shortly there after poop out it’s driveshaft without hardly a bump (the spider spread open the yokes). And on the US episode, with the Tacoma on the huuuuge tires…that one the front diff managed to tear itself off its mount. That’s where it gets to be a razors edge as you go bigger and bigger tires.

The standard 392 comes with 285 70 17.... they just had one at the dealer. But it was still AWESOME. Super fast, my wife had to pry me out of it.

Op, I know we don't buy 4runners to be fast or get good mpg. I hope you ready for 5-8mpg and 0-60mph in 20 seconds. You'll be filling up every 150 miles. Lol

^For the 2024 model year, the Wrangler 392 has the 35" tires standard.

That will really kill there advertised 0-60 time. Unless the added power or change gears

Stellantis probably looked at what 392 buyers are doing right off the lot, and decided to make 35" tires standard. 35s are pretty mainstream now, with the Bronco Sasquatch and the new ZR2 Bison both having them stock, while the Bronco Raptor and F150 Raptor come with 37s.

The 4th gen Tacoma has 33s stock on the Pro and Trail Hunter models. I suspect 35s will be a very common upgrade come next month (like 33s are today). ARB's SEMA display booth even had a 4th gen on 35s, and ARB is as conservative as they come.

If the pro tacomas are going to have 33s, that means toyota has confidence in that drivetrain and probably designed it as a whole to have toyota reliability and durability with that size. Good news all around.

With that much power, does anyone suppose axles and ujoints are the same as the previous year? Otherwise, All I’m imagining is the jeep that popped off his front wheel coming out of that bowl in Moab.

^If you see it on a 392, chances are it won't be on stock 35s, more likely 38s or 40s.
