My wife has a 2022 4R TRD Offroad premium. Last X-mass I bought and installed the factory tube roof rack. Similar rack that she had on her 2008 FJ. We liked the look and I had built surf rod holders that clamped onto the FJ rack that I wanted to use on our new beach buggy.

I had after market sliders on our FJ that she used like running boards to help get into the FJ. Within a year the powder coating started ot flake off and by the time we traded the FJ for the 4R they were rusted to chit. No idea what brand they were.

Wife told me that this X-mass she wants sliders for her 4R. Wants to be able to use them to help get into the vehicle like she did her FJ and I want them for some extra protection for the limited off-roading we do.

Question for the hive - do the Toyota factory sliders stick out far enough to help with getting into the vehicle? I can order a set for $540 from the dealer we got the 4R from and I am betting the OEM sliders won't rust up like the after market ones I got for the FJ. The Factory sliders match the look of the roof rack so I am digging that aspect along with the price. I watched a few you tube vidoes of the OEM sliders and was impressed with the build quality. JUst can't tell if you can use them as a step.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

I have the factory "Predator" steps, and short passengers have commented that they can easily get in using them. Plus, they don't stick out TOO far or hang TOO low (so you won't hit your leg and it won't impact you -much- when you're off roading).

From what I've read over the years they've been available, the OEM "sliders", which are sliders pretty much in name only, do not work well for a step at all. They are too close to the body. Unless you have feet the size of a hamster's.

if these are the sliders than definitely not capable of a step, like @glwood54 said hamster feet! That is the reason I took them off.

Same sliders I was looking at.

Thanks for the pic, that's the best one I have seen so far to determine if they would work for me. Too bad they don't stick out about 4 more inches. Price is right and being Toyota would have sealed the deal for me.

There are many good slider options for the truck. Unfortunately, I think the sun has set on the good Christmas deals.

C4, CBI, RSG, etc. pick color!

I’d personally stay away from predator steps, especially if you find yourself on a trail where sliders are useful. They’ll hang up on rocks or deep ruts.
