Coming from a car with automatic headlights, it would be nice if my 2018 Off-road chimed or beeped at me if I turn the ignition off with the headlights on. No noise at all. Is this just the way it is?

Yep, just how it is. They should turn off automatically after about a minute or so. Also if you press lock twice on the remote it should turn them off as well.

Mine do not turn off automatically on my 18’ SR5 or with the remote.

I agree that it would be nice to have a audio warning if they are left on after engine shutdown. Guess they expected the dash light to be sufficient. But if you are trying to replicate the beach scene from Point Break, then an audible warning for the headlights would be annoying.

I had the dealer set mine to auto off after 30 seconds. Yours should have this option for different auto time cutout via the dealer.

According to the manual it requires “specialized equipment” to program. A bit vague, but yeah. Can be done by the dealer. Makes me think I might need to buy more specialized equipment. I don’t understand why it isn’t accessible through the audio/navigation system. I can program speakers but not lights? WTH.

Only the Pro Bro and Limited get auto lights in the US. The lights do time out after a while on the non auto equipped models.

The lights will not turn off automatically if you stop the key at ACC for any brief amount of time after turning the engine off.

However, if you go from ON straight to OFF and pull the key out immediately, the lights will automatically turn off based on the set timer or if you press the lock button twice on your remote (as mentioned above).
