+1 for the club. Visual deterrent. The other night 4 cars in my neighborhood were broken into. All 4 left unlocked. A guy close to where I live shot at a car thief and ended up in jail for trying to protect his own property. The world is upside down right now.

One doesn’t break into an unlocked car. And using deadly force to foil theft isn’t reasonable or lawful. Take valuables with you. Lock your vehicle. Personally, I use a club to influence the criminal to go elsewhere. Carry insurance.

Every vid I have watched has been a 2 man crew with a signal boosted from a non faraday'd or disabled (hold lock hit unlock twice) key fob.

How much time did he get? I bet not much at all and it will go away and leave no permanent record on him.

I disagree with that last post.....shooting someone for stealing food is bad....shooting someone for stealing your horse is OK.

Non lethal rounds if you feel bad about it I guess...

"One doesn't break into an unlocked car"....WTH? Really? Wow.

When you can't depend on the legal system to handle criminal matters, this is what happens. Citizens will deal with it on their own.

I was viewing videos on YouTube regarding vehicle security covering a range of topics and was surprised when I saw the below add pop up. I guess they are attempting to monetize all videos and vendors.

Yeah....protection of property is frowned upon in most states..you'll lose your gun permit for that. If I ever pull my pistol , it's to protect life!

Remember the stories about how they used to hang horse thieves?

I wouldn't ever ever want to kill someone but the way things are these days not only is nobody going to look for and save your 4runner....it is also not replaceable.

Also it is no longer kids from your city/community stealing cars. It is straight up organized crime using high tech and sending your Toyota to the middle East.

    Still feel bad?

Be sure to park next to your friendly neighborhood key-start Hyundai or Kia.

I've seen a few of those range extender attacks, in the right circumstances it is as fast as having the key. I don't think not having to use my key to start my car is a convenience worth having if it means the thief doesn't need my key either. Toyota has the CAN bus attack, they shouldn't be putting diagnostic ports outside the vehicle with the capability to start the vehicle, that is like rule 1 of security. Many of these attacks are enabled by poor design.

Warning this video has annoying music- mute before you watch
I'm not a trigger itching holster wearing gun toting American. But if someone is going outside the law, they don't deserve to live without fear of the consequences. My only caution is that people think before they fire, it's no different then a day on the range, you have to think about your backstop. If your back stop is a busy sidewalk, think twice. And don't be over eager either, that's how accidents happen.

People that get upset about people killing or attempting to kill thieves have never had their stuff stolen, it's so irritating.

I’ve read a lot of good ideas here so far, so here’s my 0.2 cents. I purchased the WisdomPro Faraday pouch on Amazon (2 for $20.99). I put one key fob inside and then in a file cabinet titled 4Runner. The second pouch has my daily used key fob inside, along with my credit/debit cards/cash & driver’s license. I then purchased an Apple Air Tag from Amazon for apx. $25.00. I opened it up by watching a YouTube video and removed the speaker so if I pinged it using my cell phone the crooks wouldn’t hear it while their driving away. I took some duct tape and inside the jack compartment, reached way up inside as far as my arm would go and stuck it against the body. The Air Tags actual intended use is to find your car keys, I just repurposed it as a tracker. Car thief’s use these too, but that’s a story for another day. I went to the apps on my Iphone and downloaded the free Apple app which shows you real time where your Air Tag (vehicle) is at. Pretty handy little device. Also let’s you see if your wife is at the market or her boyfriend’s house, haha. Once your car is stolen, immediately contact local law enforcement and give them the appropriate location where your vehicle is stashed. My 4Runner is also garaged at night, with other safeguards in place regarding the garage door. I do carry an extreme amount of auto insurance. Last but not least, my vicious German Shepherd, I do mean vicious, he has a V1 designation in a Schutzhund competition, his name is LEO, sleeps in the garage with “My Precious”. Now, is this extreme, probably, but I’ll be damned if I’m gonna let some low life bitch steal my shit after I worked for 40 years and retired, then bought me my dream 4Runner to enjoy some fun off-roading/over landing until the day I’m pushing up daisies.IMG_0918.jpg

I agree with all of that ^ and have the exact same Wisdompro. I also have an entire roll of faraday cloth I bought and experiment with.

Good idea on the airtag sound kill!! BUT from my understanding what good is it if is not in bluetooth range of some random Iphone? Chances are mildly decent that it will be at some points though....maybe. Also, I have been a tech for 20+ years and I am suuuper familiar with 2032 batteries and in that scenario they need changed. How long are you getting out of one?

The only other thing I will say is that the police are not going after your 4Runner so you will have to if it ever happens.

    And then what?

The DAs and judges that slap them on the wrist and send them back to your neighborhood are the worst.

You’re correct on Apple AirTag, if thieves are not using iPhones, or your vehicle isn’t near an Apple device with internet access. The batteries themselves last about a year. And chances are, like you imply, are that cops won’t act fast enough, if at all.

All this tracking after the fact is pointless, and something being insured doesn’t mean it’s easily replaced. The real goal is to prevent it from leaving your driveway (as I can’t put in my garage. Security cameras, motions sensors, throttle pedal cut off, and a kill switch should prevent it from being driven off. Try to do a magnetic kill switch as those are impossible to find.

I have the same pouches from Amazon. But I've been lazy lately and haven't been taking 10 seconds to put my key on one at night (second key is in one and never used). I think I'm going to try the AirTag deal too (thanks for the tips).

Yeah and I think car smash and grabs went up by 300%. I won't drive into San Fran if you paid me. What's worse? Steal the whole truck or leave it on blocks? It has had an effect on my mileage.

I thought Cleveland would be on the list too. Crooks have figure out to stay the hell out of the rust belt! LOL.

PA has some cities because of their strict inspections and heavy undercoating philosophy. You would be surprised at the older cars you can buy from PA that are still clean!

Ohio has no inspections and heavily salts the roads. Heck I wish it was still just salt! Now it is some evil liquid death juice.
