My daughter smacked the right climate control knob with her backpack and managed to knock it right off. The hot/cold marked ring around it is still intact and nothing seems to be broken. Because there is a lip around the knob, idk how to get it back in as it needs to be seated under the ring. Anybody know how to fix this? Can I just pop the ring out somehow or do I need to remove the whole panel?

I can't figure out what the issue is here. Have you tried pushing it back on?

Take the shaft and turn it all the way to left or right ( that is just so you know where to align the orange mark ) then push it on.

If you are having trouble pushing the knob back onto the metal shaft, take a close look at both.

They look circular but there is a flat edge on one side so they are closer to a D shape. You need to align the flat parts before the knob can be pushed on (may require a bit of force because it is a friction fit).

The reason they are both D-shaped is because if they were both circles, when you twist the knob it could spin around the metal shaft

Also, you posted in 5th gen forum and that looks like 5th gen climate controls but your profile says 2001? Is that supposed to be 2010?

    Lots…
Let’s try to be patient with the OPs question. He seems genuine and not everyone is a mechanic on the forum.
