Thinking of picking up one of these. Anyone have experience with the Lexus IS? Good, bad and the ugly is appreciated. Thanks.

I have experience with both the 2nd and 3rd generations (2IS and 3IS). What exactly are you looking for? I don't think a run on post about the different Lexus IS versions is needed on a 4runner forum...
    For quick reference:
    1. If you are looking for a reliable, raw sports car, go with the ISF.
    2. If you want more modernized but still want a V8, go for the IS500.
    3. If you want a good and fun daily driver, go for an IS350 (or IS300 AWD - the AWD got the 3.5L V6 with port and direct injection).
    4. If you need a turbo, go for the IS200T/IS300 RWD.
I can expand if needed but I would need more info from you.

I've ridden in a 1st gen IS300 and a 3rd gen IS350. If you're used to the interior space of the 4Runner, the IS will feel very cramped. I suggest going through a few Lexus forums to research common mechanical issues and such.

I felt the same. I guess its because of that big center console area? The seat seems normal. It was a dealer loaner car. So only had few hours to play.

Are you sure you don't want to wait for the new Camry?

Does the purchase of a Camry still come with the mandatory lobotomy?

It sure is. Prior to the Prius and the Teslas, the worst thing that could happen to you was to be stuck behind a Camry in the fast lane on a California freeway. Just sayin'. Because I'm old and I remember that.

If I had a gatling gun for all the times that happened to me...

Yes, they are now. But there was a ton of suffering for years before that.

With this SUV craze going on, and I am guilty of that too, it is nice to see OP wants a cool comfy Sedan. Good for you OP!

New Toyotas are not the Toyotas of 10 years ago. I would ignore the Lexus and get the Camry with red interior :)

Service it religiously and the thing will keep going. A sweet 2.5L, no nonsense.

I haven't looked at the IS in almost a decade but when I was commuting a lot I really liked the looks and thought about it. Of course impracticality got the best of me and I wanted nothing less than the ISF (great for commuting, right?)

I'm interested to see more info about them - I think it was the 2nd or 3rd post that was pretty informative

No. That and the tight roof structure (A/B pillars). The IS was intended to be a compact sports sedan, so it's Corolla-sized.

I was just looking at the IS the other day. I was thinking a 2010-ish 250 would make a decent commuter. I drive 60 miles a day, I'm getting tired of doing it in the 4R.

I LOVED our IS350. However, it was tiny inside when it came time to upgrade we went with the new ES.
Backseat is very small, uncomfortable for adults and even our two teenagers.
That being said, an absolute blast to drive, I do miss it very much.

I actually bought my 2010 4R for the purpose of commuting 50 miles a day. I needed a high seating position to see over cars in traffic, and a 4WD system with no center diff for heavy snow.

Suggestion. Not too far from 2024 TRD Pro price tag. (Not for me, for a colleague)
