I heard they're using the torque figure at the wheels, not at the motor which is misleading.

Unless I'm butchering my math horribly, I would think the 5th gen in low range peaks at 9,365 lb/ft and 3,650 lb/ft in high range?

(Please correct me, I'm multiplying 278 lb-ft, 3.73 axle, 2.566 low range, 3.52 1st gear and assuming no efficiency losses?)

I'd honestly have a first-gen Ridgeline, Santa Cruz or Avalanche instead if I had to go the unorthodox pickup look, don't want to join the weight arms race or mess with stainless steel, let alone Tesla's "move fast and break things" tech company roots.

 

I had the same number as you for high range.

It would be nice if Tesla would let us know how much torque the motors actually generate, rather than these misleading figures. I'm sure the actual numbers are still pretty impressive, if they can propel that bloated brick to 60 MPH in 2.6 seconds.

 

Cybertruck is sick. I would love to have one. It's just too expensive.

Didn't Elon say it could compete in the Baja 1000? Compete, OMG it would so win, smoke those custom build race trucks because Elon is a genius and he designed the CT out of a brand new steel alloy he invented. Slap a range extender in there and set up "base camp" at the finish line and wait for the other losers to finally cross the line. Thanks Elon for bringing us the future now. I bet you could shoot it with a 30.06 while its sailing on the high sea and not even make a leak hole in it. They should make a new race called the Europe 1000 and race from Baja to Europe because you know it floats like a boat. Good one Muskrat!

 

Probably no different than any Truck with similar weight. Actually may be better since the breaking generates power and reports say less breaking is needed because of it.

I was at the launch and laughed at it in disbelief along with everyone else, but seeing it up close several times since it really grows on you.

 

Even if I got past the looks, it would be 100% useless for my lifestyle. Any EV would, though.

 

if you can charge it nightly in your garage and don't plan on overlanding with it, it's fine as a truck. the future will accommodate EVs to the same extent it goes gas today eventually. Hopefully, one day batteries will get 900 miles range and charge in minutes. Maybe even we could carry around solid state batteries the way we carry jerry cans of gas.

Saw a drag race on TFL with a Rivian and the Tesla smoked it easily. I wouldn’t buy a Cybertruck but would love to take one for a spin.

Who buys a vehicle based, even in part, on its ability to win a staged drag race, tractor pull, or tug-of-war? I might understand the drag race a tiny bit, but the other stuff? Do you take your vehicles to the edge of adhesion on a regular basis?

 

Yeah, great. Thanks for checking. I still stand firm on why I wouldn't buy one, but others can do what they wish.

 

Ford Raptor, Jeep 392, etc. The Cybertruck doesn’t appeal to me, but I know 3 guys at work that will order one and work is willing to pay for it since they all have work trucks. Let’s not forget, a lot of companies will be looking to buy / lease these as part of government policies and bragging rights for being green. With Canada federal government pushing heavy on EVs and stupid Carbon Tax, I can see the company I work for replace 25% of their work trucks in next 2 yrs with these (that’s about 18 trucks). They’ve already connected with Tesla 3 yrs ago for 2 transport trucks.

 

Yeah, I understand. Companies can find ways to justify certain fleet vehicle purchases. But buying because you saw drag race, or sled pull, or tug-of-war videos would be ridiculous.

 

I saw the 4Runner on YouTube videos doing offroading, and that’s why I mainly bought it … even though there are zero trails within a 2 hr hour drive from my home, and even than it’s literally just one trail that everyone in the city lines up to use.

 

Who buys full size pickup trucks when they don't really need it?
I'd venture 95% of all full size truck owners in United States.
Its the allure of what truck can do rather than whether they will have that truck do those things, is what drives their buying decision.
I figuree same is true here -- no onee is doing drag races, pulling tractors, or playing tug of war with their cybertrucks. I imagine MOST that buy it likely don't even know how to change a wiper. But its the promise of what it can do that draws them to it.
