Have people died in the rollovers?

Maybe. There was this one Jeep that fell off a cliff and the occupants were thrown out. They survived with serious injuries.
Look all the machines have their limitations. But in those crazy scary places, I would feel safer in a jeep. Feels safe when all your tires are on the ground lol.

I would assume the roll cage in Wrangler is stronger than the 4R fixed roof.

We have A-Trac, Jeep folks have BLD, BLD is also a kick-ass feature. So you don't necessarily need a Rubicon. Bld, the fact that Jeep transfer case locks the center in 4Lo, and more articulation, you can't really go wrong with a little two-door Willy's. Rubicon is overkill. Like a beefed up SR5 could outwheel a stock TRD Pro. Drivers skills matter the most

All part time 4wd transfer cases are "locked" in the center. With few exceptions, only full time 4WD vehicles have center differentials.

So our TRD off-road locks the center in 4Lo? That's awesome, thanks

Rubicon is special because of stronger axles, better crawl ratio, and the two lockers. That's all I think. Other than that, all Wranglers are damn good offroad

Willy's has same crawl ratio and gearing as our 4Runner I believe.

I'm confusing myself here. So I know the Limited has a center diff lock that turns the front and back driveshafts at the same speed.

Doesn't the normal 4LO in the ORP basically work the same way though? Or are the front and rear driveshafts turning at different speeds since it's an "open" 4LO?

Dang, all this jeep love makes me feel old as one of my first teenage jobs was at an AMC dealer cleaning the parts departments on Saturdays.

Not related, but had to share..

LOL - doesn’t take much to find videos to the contrary.

Please note that I said Jeeps will flip suddenly. What this means is that you are fine - and maybe fine longer than an IFS - but when you do flip, it’s sudden and not a progressive event.

It’s the difference between a volume knob and a switch.

People drive safer in older vehicles than modern ones.

You know why? Because they can feel the danger more.

The roof panels will not stop an unbelted passenger from popping out. There’s a video circulating of a guy who rolled his Jeep and flew out at the bottom recently.

There is no center diff, except with AWD or full time 4wd vehicles. Part time 4wd transfer cases always transfer equal power to both axles. The exception would be something like the 3rd gen 4runners with multi node, which had the option of 2wd, 4wd open, 4wd locked, and 4lo.

All part time 4wd 4Runners are "locked" in the center whenever they're in 4wd (hi or lo). There's no center differential at all.

I wouldn't assume that. The 4Runner's roof should be strong enough to hold up in a rollover accident. Plus, the sheet metal will be more protective than an open roof. I'd much rather roll over in a vehicle with a fixed roof than an open roof.

That's not to say that removable tops aren't awesome, though.

    I should hope so!

Meanwhile, the SR5 will outperform the Jeep at everything besides wheeling all day long

Nobody here is delusional enough to think the 4Runner is a better off-roader. We're here because they're like the Swiss army knife of vehicles.

Yeppers, learned a ton from the main parts guru from that place before we got bought out by a Chrysler Dealer. Good times.

I absolutely agree, that little thing is a toy. No way you can have a cross country road trip in that thing where you can have cross country roads with that thing. Our truck is so much better in the other areas

You think Chrysler was bad, let's wait what Stellantis does. They'll probably ask people to pay a monthly subscription to use their lockers

I did not say Chrysler was bad in that, that I can see, was a Plymouth guy and respect multiple platforms.

Not picking a side, just a paycheck at the time. Did get good prices in the future from my guy on Mopar performance parts when I started bracket racing.

My local Jeep dealership is so desperate to get rid of that disastrous Italian 3.O l turbo diesel, they're giving $12,000 discount on a fully loaded Gladiator Rubicon. $72,000 down to $60,000. It has been sitting there for 6 months :p. It is as loaded as a Gladiator can get. It even has steel bumpers and a winch

Diesels are cool, but if I’m going to roll the bones with an Italian motor, I’d rather pick up a used Ferrari.
