    Oooh look, another mod.....
I installed some LED turn signal lights last night, and I noticed this morning, that I have hyper flashing. I wasn't hoping it wouldn't happen (never has before), but it did.

Here's the thing: It's causing my front and rear lights to hyper flash. I replaced the tail lights about a month ago with full LED's from Morimoto. The rears never hyper flashed. They worked perfectly.

So, do I need resistors for all four lights? Just the front? Just the rears? Putting resistors on the rears is easy, because I can remove the light and clamp on the device. Getting to the turn signal is going to be a challenge. I had to install that blind.

I'm thinking about buying two sets. One for the fronts and one for the rears. I'm going to install the rears first (since it's the easiest to do) and see if that fixes all four.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Smart ass comments?

Just saying incase you switch back later. But I would say Front, because you just did those.

So I did some reading (funny what happens when you do that), I found out that I ordered the WRONG bulbs:

I'm pretty sure this is what caused my hyper flashing. I'll call the company to confirm this though.

If your new LED bulbs don't have resisters the car will not get the required feedback and think the bulb is out thus causing the hyper flash. LED's draw a lot less power than old canescent bulbs. You didn't get that with the Morimoto's because they are built with resistors to avoid this issue.

I called Diode and couldn't get a clear answer. I asked if the switch back style was the cause, like, if I got non-switch backs would it STILL hyper flash?

They told me just to be sure, order resistors, which I did. I also ordered non-switch back style LED's. Does anyone know the answer?

With all the threads outlining issues people have attempting to ‘upgrade’ to LED fixtures, I’m surprised they keep trying.

This is more than likely your answer. You need the resistors on the fronts as that is what DD's website states.

I'd get better LEDs with built in resistors so you're not hacking up the wiring but that's up to you. Try one set of resistors first to see if it helps.

Diode dynamics shouldn’t hyperflash. Try reversing them inside the plug. I have DD and they’re fine.

Most LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. That said, if you put one in "backwards," it will not illuminate. Flipping it usually fixes this particular issue.

Hyperflash is a completely different and separate issue caused by the low resistance of most LED bulbs. As has already been stated, this fools your vehicle into thinking you have a blown incandescent bulb - which has zero resistance. Flipping an LED bulb has no effect on resistance.

That fixed it! Both were inserted backwards. Now they do not hyper flash.

I removed both, then put in the left side, tested it worked and put in the right side and tested it. Thank you so much.

Ha! I would've lost that bet! Glad it works as intended without having to splice the harness with resistors.

Now I need to cancel the order for the resistors that I ordered from Diode. If I'm too late, they're easy to work with and I can get a full refund after I ship them back, no biggie.

I'm soooooooooo glad that solution worked out.

Did you by chance use the four way flasher button to determine they no longer hyper flash?

No, I used the turn signals to test, and it did work/function normal. (This was last night. I tested it 4 or 5 times, just to be sure.)

Update: So this morning, the hyper flashing came back! But in an odd twist, it doesn't flash as FAST as before, it's slowed down? I'm glad I still have the resistors and a new set of LED's on order!

What’s the temp difference between when it was hyper flashing, when it wasn’t, and now with the return of a slower hyper flash? I have custom head and tail LED lights with resistors and they still will occasionally hyper flash when it’s really hot out
