Truck leaning to the passenger side after lift

Is it my illusion or uneven surface? I will discuss this with the shop next month. I have an apppintment with them for post lift inspection.

 

Visually, it does appear to have a slight difference between right and left, just by the picture, I would definitely document measurements with correct tire pressure and weight to provide to your guys for reference

 

Will do. Can it be fixed if there is an issue? Googled and people talk about the KDSS lean thing. Could it be that?

 

Not 100% sure as this is in nowhere in my wheelhouse, but there has to be other 4runners with similar issues. with similar updates.
Knee jerk reaction, would attribute this to a different spring rate. This is just an opinion on my part.

 

KDSS lean can happen with lift or without lift.

If the lean is too much to your taste there are multiple solutions shops use.

1) My 4x4 shop preferred method - open kdss valve method.
Some shops use-
2) KDSS spacer (a very common method used)
3) Different spring (heard for GX460 this method

If it's not too much I won't mess with it.

 

Doesn't the Toyota warranty cover kdss lean?

 

Not if they think it's a result of your modifications.

Hopefully your shop is familiar with KDSS, and maybe it can be fixed by opening the valve.

 

But they have to prove that the modifications did it? Did this happen to your kdss when you put the lift on?

 

It is a really well made lift kit, not some cheap crap. It is specifically designed for the kdss system,

 

Sort of. The Magnuson Moss act is supposed to protect us from being denied warranty work unless it can be proven that the modification caused the issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work that way in practice.

Mine is fine. I kept it around 2.5" in front, and 1.5" in the rear, and it sits level.

It seems like a crapshoot if you're going to get a lean.

The KDSS spacers might help, or they might not.

 

It does look tilted, but so does the white Toyota sedan across from you.

This is pacific northwest, level spots and level heads are a rarity

 

Hard to say from the photo. Everything in that photo is leaning, therefore nothing is leaning.

 

I don't know anyone got it corrected under warranty.

On another note, you might be over thinking it. As said, park on a level garage even better after giving some highway miles and then check. If it's not a big difference leave it as is. IMO keeping it reliable not let anyone touching it is best rather than getting it perfect level. My Limited rear has ¾cm difference left to right. I didn't use the trim packer or what ever that thing is called. I don't feel driving it nor visually see it. So if it's not too much don't touch it. IMO.

 

True. When I looked at it the picture seems tilted based on the parking lines and other objects. I think measuring center of the wheel to bottom of the fender might be a better way.

I would say measure and see. If it's a minor difference, leave it as is. Enjoy the setup you have. As said I'm really happy for you with the lift and tire size option you went with. Over thinking might not give you peace of mind.

Look, I am too old now to run after dealerships and shops for warranty and stuff. It is why I bought a Toyota and not another Jeep

 

You do need a new rear plate. The numbers fell off yours.

 

I get the sentiment, but as soon as the dealership see's the aftermarket lift they will deny it and wash their hands. Magnuson Moss would protect him if he had replaced parts to OE specs (Not lifted), and likely only if professionally installed.

If you have a look at a recall or TSB from Toyota they often denote it will not apply to a vehicle with parts related to the recall that have been modified.

 

Check the spring perches on the front shocks to make sure one of them isn't upside down? I had that issue when I first installed my lift, I never even noticed until the person that did my BMC chop caught it and told me.

 

@Yotaholic - did you ever get center of hub to fender edge measurements left/right to compare? That's what will tell you if there is indeed a lean. Then you have to decide if there is, you can live with it as is.

 

Open the kdss valves (if you have them) 1.5-2 turns maximum each. Shake the truck back and forth. It will straighten back out. If you don’t have kdss then my apologies.

You may not be overthinking it, I actually have the same lean, often.
It could be that you're surface you park on regularly; or recent, is at that grade - and the KDSS leans you afterwards. I've flexed all four corners after reading recommendations here, and posted before and after pics.
Truth be told, I'm convinced I need to install KDSS correction spacers, for the cylinder and panhard correction, it's sold by many (I haven't installed any of the sort, don't crucify me)

 

My centre of wheel to fender measurements are actually,not bad. Adding to the illusion perhaps. But as good folks have mentioned here, I may need to adjust the valves god help me..

 

You have a point. The spot where the truck is parked most of the time, is not level. So what's the solution, park the other way for a few days lol?
