The day I walked into the Dealership, they had one ORP/MR with the exact trim level and color I wanted. Only accessories were door edge guards, polished tailpipe tip (which I wanted) and cargo cover (no big deal). It had just left the Port in Japan the day before for their inventory. So I worked the deal and immediately put down a deposit. I remember the sales rep at the time mentioned that ALL the Pro's were already sold by the time they left the Port in Japan. LOL

The early Pro's are rare to see today (cement, quicksand, inferno, calvary blue). What did a Cement Pro sell for in 2017?

This thread seems mostly about the Pro - but I really enjoyed my buying experience on my ORP Cap White. I’m loving every minute of it, I’ve of course, done some plastic surgery to it to look like a proper 4Runner.

I’ve attached the first photo shared in this site. I have 9000 miles on the clock so far, give or take. I’ve done two oil changes to it myself, all Genuine Toyota parts, including the front fascia improvements.

I paid 54K for mine a year and 1/2 ago. I think they did raise the price some, I noticed they started charging extra for certain colors. Only add on mine had was the sliding rear cargo deck. Other than that it's stock, exactly how I wanted it.

Totally agree! I loved driving my DCSB TRDOR Taco for about 10 years before I traded it in for my Pro. Very convenient to toss stuff in the bed nd haul, but got to the point where the 4R fit my needs better. Getting 65% of my money back after a decade didn’t hurt either ;)

Back on topic… I absolutely love my black Pro for the same reasons Solar does. Didn’t pay a big markup either. This whole argument is silly honestly.

Man, quicksand is so cool, not sure why it’s been so overlooked. Solar Octane, Voodoo Blue, Lunar Rock, and Quicksand are my favorite. Bet those early ones were like $10K cheaper than they are now after inflation.

There’s a fire station I drive buy in Boston that looks like a Toyota truck enthusiast dealership lol at least 2 Pros, one in Quicksand, a Taco Pro, modified 200 series LC, older LC….boys have good taste.

I too would go with Quicksand as my #1 choice of them all. Lime Rush would be my least favorite!

I just picked up a pro 2 weeks ago about an hour from my house, 56k before tax and tags and they gave me over the maximum CarMax value for my trade. I got the TRD Pro because of everything it offers and it was maybe 4K more than the off-road premium. It was between a 4Runner and a Wrangler Rubicon, and all the rubicons in stock near me were the 4Xe package, and I didn't want that shit. I'm more than happy with my pro and I use it for business and pleasure. I get what I want and I don't care about opinions, Plus I had to get it before the end of the year. Next stop is rust proofing and undercoating on Monday.

Congrats on the new rig. Looks good !! Good thinking to have the rust-proofing done now when it's new. Which rust-proofer did you decide on ?

VALUGARD, is the brand I'm using, there are Line-X distributor also, and they have accessories. They also do the fluid film but he recommended this stuff over fluid film. I leave a block from the ocean, always rust proofed my vehicles.

Don't blame you. Living that close to the salt air. I used Krown myself. Had the first application done at 600 miles. Just had it's third application done this past May. Been very happy with the results so far.

Congrats! Good choice. My cousin has a modded gladiator rubicon. Even when stock, the compromise with how it drove on the street was too much imo. Probably a better rock crawler but I would never use either for that anyway.

Pro is an awesome OEM headache free option. Don’t miss my suspension modding days one bit lol.

Getting mine done at Krown this week at the 500 mile mark. Have always done it myself with CRC/Fluid Film so a bit nervous with a new product + the whole drilling access holes thing.

Any noticeable rust after a few seasons? Still has a good base layer? Regrets letting them drill the access holes?

No regrets at all. My 4R just turned 19K. Granted, it's also garaged. But still, after 2.5 years the chassis still looks new. What I noticed was even the heads of the bolts have not started to rust. That tells me a lot. I don't understand peoples panic with drilling holes. The only holes they drill are about 1/2" or less in the inner EDGE of each door, and plug it with a cap. You can't even tell it was ever done. The Krown goes on clear. They even do the firewall in the engine compartment. It has no effect on electrical components. The warranty requires you to re-apply the application once a year. Each application is about $150.00 and takes about an hour and a half while you wait. For me, why bother purchasing all the material and tools to do it yourself ? $150 once a year and no hassle seems like cheap insurance, especially if the vehicle is new.

Ya, exactly my thinking too. Tired of all the hours and awful mess I make in my driveway. I use like 4-5 cans at least too. At $10 a can + my time, $150 for someone else to do it is a no brainer.

I’m a bit picky with my newer cars and spent a fortune on all the PPF/ceramic to keep it looking new lol. Which is why the idea of drilling holes kind of bothered me. I thought they drill into the inner door sills too? Honestly bothers me less if it’s just the doors and not the body.

I have a 2007 ram 3500 that I had rust proofed since new, an updated every few years. This truck has no rust and the frame looks very good considering I have a block from the ocean. The only thing is the clear coat is starting to fail on the cab, so I'll probably have it repainted in the spring.

Very nice! That’s my goal. Not worried about clear coat, since mine is PPFed/ceramic coated and will get professionally detailed annually, just want to make sure the underside stays nice and rust free for many years to come.

Planning on keeping this truck decades. My 3rd gen is on year 23 with a much less careful previous owner so hope to beat it’s trouble free run with this new one lol.

Again, the only holes drilled are on the inside door edges. That it goes on clear allows them to do the engine compartment firewall and inner fenders. We know the 4R's frame tends to start rusting fairly soon. But the Tech at the shop told me the nice thing with the 4R is that the frame has lots of access holes. That, and the vehicle being on a lift, allows plenty of access to get good coverage on the inside of the frame. They did mention after application, not to wash the vehicle for something like 2-3 days. Especially a bottom blaster so the rust proofing can cure. There will be a slight burning smell after the application from slight overspray on exhaust pars. But it goes away after 4-5 days. (By now, I'm probably starting to sound like a salesman for Krown LOL) One suggestion: You might want to remove the spare tire before your Krown appointment so they have access to that area. Otherwise, they will have to spray as close as they are reasonably able. Here's a previous Link to a Thread I posted about a half year ago if your interested:

The guy who does my rust proofing takes off the spare, I remember to smell well. My area is worth every penny if you keep your vehicles as long as I do.

No, appreciate the info! Sounds pretty similar to my own prep/aftercare with my previous DIY fluid film applications.

Plan to remove both the spare and front skid plate so they can blast away. Gonna let it drip dry in the street like I normally do, so neighbors will still probably hate me for a few days lol.

I also like driving over a dirt road within the first week to really cake on that base layer. Has held up great on my 3rd gen.

While not a TRD Pro, I had to look out west to buy my TRD Premium at MSRP. ALL the dealers in the entire southern region that I tried wanted between 5 and 10 k over. Not. I guess enough people have that “gotta getta new toy” NOW disease down here. Very poor inventory down here as well.

I'm sorry you couldn't get a better deal locally. People have been reporting lower prices in the last couple months, but there's still some geographic variation. Now that you've got it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed mine.

I had my 2020 done at grown 2 weeks ago. They did a great job. I highly recommend if you are in a salt area. I’d also recommend parking on a tarp for 2 to 3 days while it drips off. Makes for much easier cleanup at home. Don’t be surprised if it smells after you drive for a week. It’ll drip on the exhaust a little here and there.
I’m sold and will be doing it every year. I’d love for mine to last 15+ years.

I was fortunate enough to find a dealer that was more than fair when I ordered my 2022 ORP (Toronto area, Canada) in Mar 2022. Originally (Jan 2022), I was looking at Jeep Gladiator Rubicon’s with tow pkg, LED pkg with diesel. Dealer’s here were outrageous in their pricing. MSRP + their inflated “add ons” put it over $25K above 4Runner ORP (which I wasn’t fully focused on yet). Diesel engine added $7K MSRP and rare, so figured I’d look gas model and was still looking at $20K more ($70K+). After that I looked at other options (Tacoma, 4Runner, Bronco) I had a better understanding of what the 4Runner TRD Off Road vs TRD Pro offers. I was actually able to get a 4Runner slightly below MSRP provided I was willing to wait 6 months. A couple of months after ordering a 4Runner, the Jeep sales folks were calling me / emailing offer big discounts and higher trade in value for my vehicle, as their vehicles started to just sit on the lot and the inventory climbing. Their greed came back to haunt them, as some of the exact Gladiators I was looking were still sitting their 4-5 months later, lol.

I had my first Krown application done at 600 miles. Just finished the third annual application this past May. Even the heads of the bolts have not started to rust yet. The product does in fact appear to work.

There are jail cells for dealers that try to pull that kind of crap, $2273 for little more than window tint, floor mats and wheel locks, appearance protection, dent protection? run as fast as you can!!!

Picked up a new '23 ORP a week or so ago in Northern Ca. The Pros had an additional 5-6k markup. The ORP I was able to get at 49k. Didn't plan on getting a 4Runner, but when I realized that my 65k budget was not really much buying power in this market I decided to buy something I'd own for another 12 years.

Wanted a Sequoia but wow the markups on those are insane. Looked at the Grand Highlander MAX, rediculous. Wanted a Lexus GX but those were going for over 60k in the trim I wanted. Can't justify these vehicle prices. If it weren't for my 12YO Suby acting up I would not be buying. I am glad with what I got. Bullet proof and capable.
