Today's 3.6L Pentastar V6 is the best motor since the 4.0L I6. Chrysler has sold the heck out of them, millions on different kind of vehicles, from Jeeps to Minivans to Ram pickups. Many have clocked over 500k miles. One Ram made it to 700k miles. The bugs have been fixed. The JL is better than the Bronco in every way, pass the Bronco!

I agree that people are unfair to Jeep. But, Ford makes good vehicles, also. I think the Broncos were exceptionally bad.

You can break any axle if you're an idiot. I've seen the way some people drive Jeeps. Personally, I'd rather buy a base model and then put Dana 60s on it if I was going to get all nutso.

Oh yeah, if you want to get that crazy, then get the Jeep with the least options and then build the heck out of it

For as much shit as the Pentastars get, they're good engines I agree. I've experience them in the 300C and RAM 1500 classic... gotta say very good engine. Obviously it's not a 1GR-FE, but it does come close in terms of reliability.

But, Bronco's ecoboost are good engines new, but seems like a lot of owners are having issues. My only experience with a ecoboost was in an Explorer with the 2.3L gotta admit I did like it, super peppy for highway travel, but longterm reliability is super iffy.

So yes, I’ve been in a WWII era Jeep, I owned a CJ-5, and I’ve driven the OG Wrangler.

Dreadful vehicles, but pure of purpose. So much smaller than the modern stuff.

As for Ford, they used to produce “jeeps” during WWII.

They made Jeeps before Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler, Daimler, Cerberus, Fiat, and Stellantis did.

The 3.5 ecoboost is a decent engine. My parents own a jk wrangler with the 3.6 engine and it hasn’t given them any problems, but it has only 50k miles.

Mark my words when the 3.6 pentastar gets discontinued people will suddenly say they always liked them after hating on them for a decade. It’s one of the last NA engines you can get in a real 4wd. They had issues early on with cracked heads, but that seems to be solved from my perspective of knowing 3 people with them.

The engine that came after the 4.0 I6 was a good engine too. The “van” engine was gutless, but I haven’t heard of it having serious problems. I could be wrong, but it the biggest criticism is the lack of power.

I think the 200 series Land Cruiser greater than or equal to the maximum size a 4wd can be. I remember watching a 4wd Action video where they had an LC200 that had to go around several obstacles because it was too fat to fit. Jeep seems to believe the current Wrangler width is as wide as it can be, because it didn’t increase from the previous JK.

Jeep is super DUI friendly. Things break, yes, but they are not catastrophic. Keep fixing, keep Jeeping. It is part of the Jeep Experience :oldglory::D

I have owned 3 Jeeps — one Wrangler and two Patriots. Never had one issue whatsoever. I’m very proud to be a 4Runner owner now, but I don’t throw shade at Jeep. Sorry to disappoint you, internet.

If being dreadful is the qualifying factor, the new Wrangler I drove this spring might qualify. :D

What did you find dreadful? The 8 spd ZF transmission is phenomenal. The new JL handles really well for what it is.

The wind noise. Which, I would gladly live with for a weekend toy. But, the thought of driving that a few hundred miles at a time really helped me talk myself out of it.

Honestly, I think they're awesome for what they are. They're just not as good of an overall vehicle as the 4Runner. Which is why I'm here, and not a Jeep forum. And, I'll bet I'm not the only one. :D

I had that transmission in two vehicles back to back from different manufacturers.

When you tell it what gear to be in, it’s fine, but I never cared for it when left to its own devices when you need to really scoot.

I wonder how many sales Jeep would get if they made a fixed roof Wrangler that reduced interior wind noise to a normal SUV

Get a hardtop, and never remove the top ever. Just drive it the way it came from the factory, that way the noise is minimized. If you remove it, then you're asking for trouble, a lot of noise and some leaks

I drove a hardtop. It was loud AF compared to the 4Runner. No way I'd ever live with that much wind noise and not take the roof off. In fact, I'd probably have a soft top on it most of the time, so that I could remove and replace it whenever I felt like it.

Hard to say that it kicks everyone's ass if it's too big to even attempt the obstacles. :notsure:

    I'd take a 4Runner over a 200 series, if off-roading was a priority.
