Why to even buy something that you don't intend to keep? Who cares about resale value, this truck is a keeper.

So you are not gonna wheel hard because the resale value will be affected? Obviously you can't wheel hard because you will risk tearing TRD Pro's plastic bumpers. So why buy an offroader?

Well, the discussion of this thread centered around crazy markups and values of TRD Pros. You believe they aren't worth their price compared to your modded truck, I believe they are and have no desire owning a modded lower trim.

No intention to sell mine, plan to keep it running longer than my 3rd gen, just stating a fact related to values of each. Again, whatever floats your boat lol you don't have to justify your mods versus buying a Pro to me. Love my Pro and super happy with my choice.

I didnt want the special color, I wanted MGM. I got what I wanted and I'm happy with it. It looks like you did the same so why do you keep hating on everyone who has a trd pro?
I replied to you earlier already but maybe pictures will help you understand...

I love my 4R for camping, MTB, skiing, going to the lake, roadtrips/overlanding, medium difficulty trails, having fun in the desert. For now, the fox suspensions are sufficient for my needs and I'm happy I have dual zone climate, auto headlights, remote start, etc... that the ORP didnt offer.

Like i told you previously, if I want to go rock crawling or risky trashing the vehicle, I use the TJ on 35s (also 4.0L but straight 6 instead of V6, and stick shift instead of auto)
    2000 Jeep.png IMG_7951.jpg IMG_7952.jpg IMG_7953.jpg

The 4R is my reliable truck that can go about anywhere on or off road and get me home. The jeep is the toy to have fun without me crying if something breaks. Not everyone feel the need to put 34s and completely modify their 4R. I wouldn't have bought a pro if I was going to change suspensions, tires, wheels, etc.. Good for you that you did, can't you just accept that others don't have to be like you?

You justified buying the Pro by bringing resale value to the discussion. Remove the resale value, and the Pro has no value. It is basically a TRD Offroad. "Pro" signifies offroad capability according to Toyota. So what offroad capability does it give? It is not like Rubicon Recon of Wrangler. Does Pro give an extra locker, no. Does it give a better gear ratio, no. Does it give a better transfer case, no. So what does it give that makes it a Pro?

If you just needed a reliable truck, then a 4WD SR5 would have been perfect. You wasted like 20 grand on the Pro

Oh trust me I've used my rear locker plenty. I said I dont go rock crawling which I would risk doing serious damage (that's why I have the TJ), I didn't say I never off road with it.
BTW, putting a tire on a rock like you did is NOT what I call rock crawling just in case you thought it was...
I just do more than just going off road which is the reason I don't want to drastically change my setup as everything I have is sufficient. but just keep hating...

I am not hating, and I don't rock crawl with this truck either. I have done enough rock crawling with my Jeeps over the years. And I don't need a locker, A-Trac is plenty. You really did waste 20 grand. You needed a 4WD SR5 Premium, that's all. As far as my choice is concerned, I got the TRD for a few reasons like KDSS and 4WD shifter. Those aren't available on SR5.

I saw an SR5P for 60K today at a Toyota Dealership. Some of them are just smoking good crack.

Who said I justified it solely for that reason? It’s one of many factors why I chose it over a lower trim.

The special color, fox suspension, creature comforts that don’t come on the ORP, warranty on TRD Pro parts, etc are additional reasons I chose it. The total package itself is perfect for my needs, wants, and intended use.

Ya, pretty strange to see people passionately trying to convince others that they bought the wrong thing lol.

I was childhood friends with this guy who over the years turned into your typical debbie downer, constantly criticizing people for their choices that never affected him. I kept repeating “whatever makes you happy” until he got upset enough to stop talking to me.

So again, whatever makes him happy :D

And you can stop derailing every TRD Pro discussion to make it about how great you think your truck (that’s still missing features that the Pro has) is and how everyone buying a Pro is a fool. Just be happy with what you have, if you actually are happy. I’m new here and have already noticed you bragging about your rig anywhere and everywhere regardless of whether it’s relevant to the topic or not.

No, maybe the limited for the full time 4wd but again I need my rear locker so I would have needed to add an on board compressor but I don’t want to change much for now. But again, it seems like you know my life and exactly where I go more than me. Maybe i should’ve gotten a Highlander after all…

A Highlander would have been a wise choice, since you have a Jeep.

I don’t think the Highlander would like trails in Sedona, Colorado, or Moab. And no I’m not driving all the way there with a tj on 35s

I know a thing or two about 4X4s. And TRD Pro is a TRD Offroad with a black bumper instead of a silver, and costs 10 grand more, plus the markup :p

Maybe those are the only things you notice, but those are not the only differences. Just because YOU don’t value items that are on the Pro and not available on the TRD Off-road doesn’t mean they are worthless to everyone else. Being a 4x4 is part of being a vehicle, there is also lots of other things that don’t just become irrelevant because it is a 4x4. As someone else said, you be you. Just stop expecting everyone else to want to be like you.

Toyota advertises TRD Pro as the Pro of their offroaders, and all they give you are black bumpers. The rest like fancy sound system are irrelevant. With Wrangler Rubicon Recon, you get a ton, things that are not available on Sahara and Willy's. Toyota needs to do better

Again, you don’t value the Fox shocks, you don’t value the slight lift, you don’t value the front skid plate, you don’t value the much nicer looking wheels, you don’t value the AT tires, you don’t value the roof rack, you don’t value the TRD exhaust, you don’t value the black bumpers, you don’t value the different grille (oh wait you do since you put that on to make your look more like a Pro), you don’t value automatic headlights, you don’t value dual zone climate control, you don’t value the remote app, you don’t value JBL sound….

Just because your only focus is off-road, doesn’t mean that lots of us don’t want the modest improvements for off-road along with the better appearance and more loaded feature set of the TRD Pro. So you can stop with the it’s only black bumpers BS.

I didn't put the grill to look like a Pro, I put it on for the classic Toyota look. No, I do not value any of those things that you mentioned, they don't add to the offroad worthiness of the truck. Those TRD Pro tires are a joke, nobody keeps them because they are crap offroad. Wrangler Rubicon comes with 4.10, 4.56, 4.88 gearings, two lockers, and 35 inch KO2s from the factory, 37s can be added with just a lift, no trimming needed. That's a Pro, not the crap that Toyota is putting out and charging a Premium

@Yotaholic with your reasoning it sounds like you overpaid your truck by 30-40k. Since you don’t care about anything but offroad capabilities you should have got an older 4R (or another vehicle) for a lot less money than your brand new truck and just add the same aftermarket mods to it

@Yotaholic I think it's no point continue to argue. I truly value your mods. I miss them when Toyota dealership replaced mine after the accident. Probably because I'm an amateur I don't know how to wheel a stock Pro, vs looking forward for mods. Just wanted to say at least people like me truly value your build vs my almost stock Pro. Don't go too much in to this topic. Let people be happy what they have. I don't want this thread to turn in to personal hate/ people starting to hate your build and talk crap about it.

    Cheers
