This is correct. The K&N does let more air flow, but the filter lets more dirt pass into the engine.

I've always thought, that installing an oiled air filter or CAI results in throatier noise feedback from the throttle bore on some vehicles. THIS is the reason the owners swear its "faster". Just my opinion though, and I've got plenty of those.....

You know what I haven't read about on any forums lately, actually in a long time? Those clandestine-esque makeshift "hydrogen generators" people were putting under the hood to inject "hydrogen" into the intake, resulting in (according to them) lightning bolt acceleration and a (min.) 40mpg boost

They were almost always an emptied jug of Fanta shasta berry soda with holes cut into it with a dull pocket knife, aquarium tubing, and lotsa lotsa duct tape.

Seems like the backlash here was a little excessive for the OP. This place is starting to feel more like Tacomaworld sometimes.

There some here getting 20+ easy. Just saying.

I can only give my Tundra MPG by trip. I tow the boat mostly with it so of course we talking less than 9MPG.

This doesn't even make any sense. Although, that's not surprising coming from you.

I've never reported a single post. I only said that I was surprised you haven't been banned because you never have anything worthwhile to say.

As usual, you're not clever, funny, or helpful. Your contributions to this forum are mostly worthless.

Not that you'll see this anyway, since you ignored me.

It's funny that you misunderstood my post on that other thread, and then proceeded to call me stupid because of it.

Anybody that has a K&N, could you post a picture of a clean filter backlit directly against the sun? I’m pretty sure they all have pinholes. At least the one I had was able to pass sunlight directly through various pinholes.

By the way, someone mentioned K&Ns are only good to keep boulders out. To be fair, that’s an exaggeration. It does pretty good with pea-gravel sized rocks too. Lol

Get rid of the roof rack, and slow down.

Part of the reason I went with the Yakima basket was the ability to remove it when I don't need it. I actually did an experiment last summer where I took the same route in the same conditions with and without the rack, and saw a 10% improvement in fuel economy without the rack.

Also, cruising speed above ~70 MPH starts to kill fuel economy, especially with oversized tires.

Environment definitely plays a big role, as well. But, that doesn't change the fact that you would have gotten better fuel economy at 65-70. Wind resistance exists no matter where you drive.

True but like I said its for towing majority of the time. And no I'm not going to drive around just to take a damn pic.

Want me to jack it up and leave push some gas so you can see my trip MPG? I could bull shit like that.

Depends on tailwinds and grades too. The amount of engine power needed to maintain 80mph with a 10mph headwind is vastly more than maintaining 80 with a 10mph tailwind.

Put another way, it’s the difference in aerodynamic drag of a 70mph relative wind versus a 90mph relative wind. If you have a big roof rack (or a thin one that’s not aerodynamic) moving at a 90mph relative windspeed could very literally be like dragging a small parachute behind you. The racks with large frontal areas might even start to fail from the stresses, or start pulling on the roof tin pretty good.

Some of those places in the high plains seem to be climbing slightly or descending slightly for hours on end, so I can imagine a combination of factors that would get 22mpg on a long highway run.

I feel bad for the OP for all of the dumping y'all did on him. Why not just let it go and if you don't agree so what?

I had to take a mini road trip across the state yesterday and averaged 21.5 MPG overall with a 210 mile round trip. About half of that was going 75MPH. I'm quite happy with that to be honest, and no I do not have any of these addons as my vehicle is still brand new.

The one thing about this forum is all the mean people here. Disagreements are be thing but all this crap dumped on the OP is stupid and consistent on this site. That’s why I don’t find much value here anymore. People need to be more respectful when responding to posts.
