I own a 2022 4X4 Limited and want to share my experience with various mods. This vehicle isn't my daily driver but my wife's.
*Mod #1: replaced the engine air filter with a K&N. Wife immediately noticed more power and better gas mileage.
*Mod #2: installed an AFE Silver Bullet throttle spacer from American trucks. Wife noticed just a bit more power and not a drop in gas mileage.
*Mod #3: replaced all 6 spark plugs with E3s. This is where my wife noticed the most gains on both power and better MPGs. It's not like the vehicle gained 100hp but any positive change is better than nothing. I've driven it several times and I definitely noticed better throttle response, a bit more power and much better MPGs than when we bought it. I also bought a Raxiom Speedform throttle controller also from American trucks but haven't got time to install it. I also run Mobil1 0W20 extended performance and I intend to use synthetic in the transfer case and the rear differential to free up a bit more HP because synthetic fluids are more slick than conventionals. I'll leave the transmission alone with nothing but genuine Toyota WS fluid.

    Lol

K&n is trash and could blow your engine. They don't add power or improve gas mileage.

    Throttle spacers do nothing also.

And synthetic fluids don't add hp lol

Basically you are 0 for 3 on this post

    Oooh look, another mod.....
If you install Toyota branded floor mats and a new gas pedal they boost the HP & MPG too!

So it sounds like I'm lying but I gain nothing from it. I'll stick to my guns. I've been using synthetics for over 30 yrs.

Using synthetic does not "Free up a bit more hp". Now, it may help the engine run better than it did before, and RESTORE the LOST hp, but it cannot add any beyond the manufacturers specs.

Not all synthetics are created equal. I bet that they would've gotten better results with Amsoil. I learned to use synthetics from my time working on helicopters in the Army over 35 yrs ago.

Think of when these were created...carburation was still being used. Sure they worked then when the air/fuel was mixed before the spacer but now fuel is injected behind the intake valve or in DI engines, in the combustion chamber. These have done nothing for years except whistle and of course no one had anything but a butt dyno for results. The placebo effect is real.

A throttle spacer cannot add HP, all it does is move the torque curve slightly which is why some people may feel in their butt dyno an improvement. A drop in filter will net you around 5hp. I doubt you are gonna feel that in a 260hp engine inside of a 5000 lb truck. Now, if you're in a 180hp lightweight car like a BRZ or miata, you'll maybe feel that extra bit of pep right at the top of the redline.

There are people who buy those ODB2 fuel saver things and give it 5 starts and those have been proven to do nothing. So take 4 and 5 star reviews on unproven products with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila.

I dunno about pot, but I bet they've got a solid bridge you could purchase.

There has been extensive tests done on CAIs by the companies that offer tunes for 4runners and tacomas and they don't add any power after thorough testing

I have been told that adding a "HYBRID" emblem on the tail gate doubles the fuel economy. And if it's black in color, then that's an extra 10 HP from the factory.

I thinkthe first part of this claim is true, if I'm not mistaken Project Farm test proved K& N had better air flow (But at the cost of less filtering). Not sure about the better gas mileage or even you can feel the extra performance.

Maybe it makes extra power if you use it for 30 years?

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Doesn’t the sensors and computer control air/fuel to a 14.7 to 1 ratio?
If you flow more air you need to add more fuel to maintain that ratio, correct?
I could possibly see a slight advantage in power but not economy.
Between the loss of filtering and potential air filter oil gumming up the MAF I would have give K&N a hard pass.
K&N filters are great for race engines that need all the edge they can get without boulders going down the intake but for everyday street vehicles, especially any that go in dusty off road conditions it seems to be a poor choice for longevity.
