Hi all. I’ve been lurking around the last few weeks absorbing lots of good information and modification ideas. I had been looking for a new TRD Pro and with limited supply and not being sold on the new Terra or Underground colors, I started looking at lightly used models. I found a 2023 in Solar Octane which is one of my favorite colors they’ve ever offered. It only have 7k miles on it and looks brand new. I’m taking off work tomorrow to make the 4 hour drive to pick her up. I had a 2004 Limited that I bought new back in 2003 and am really looking forward to getting into a 4Runner again. Looking forward to becoming part of the community here.

    Welcome from the PNW.

As a fellow TRD Pro owner, you need a Westcott lift, S&B cold air intake, speed booster and some 285/70/17’s.

We own a 2019 Pro (mine) and the wife has the same setup in a 2020 Pro - love them!

As we are heading toward winter here in the northeast, I think next will be some Blizzaks on the stock wheels, and maybe KO2s on Gunmetal TRD wheels in the spring. It does seems KO2s are still the go to for an all around AT tire.

Skid plates will probably be coming soon, perhaps as a Christmas gift.

I think I’m going to keep it stock height for now to see if I want to lift or not. I love the look of a wider tire, but I’ve been seeing some interesting things about the pizza cutter approach with narrower tires working better in a lot of situations. Still on the fence about whether I’ll go higher or wider.

Tell me more about the intake and speed booster (I assume that is a throttle pedal remap device). I’m liking the more pronounced TRd exhaust even though it’s not my absolute favorite sound. It’s tons better than the wheezey sounding stock system I had on my 2004 with the 4.0 V6. Always regretted not getting the 4.7 V8 (wish they offered a V8 on the 5th gen).

These really are great vehicles. I’m not really sold on all the modern stuff, even if vehicles are getting stupid fast and much more efficient. I like the reliability and solid, proven long lasting engineering vs. squeezing out every last bit but killing durability. And I’m loving the “old” tech. An 8” screen is plenty and it might not be fancy looking, but it’s damn responsive and has everything I use. I can deal with going back to wired CarPlay, and having physical knobs and switches makes me so happy. My VW had everything in the damn screen and more software gremlins that you can shake a stick at. I think I’ll keep this truck until it dies, or I do, I’m only 43 but feel like it could keep up with me well into retirement.

Thanks all for welcoming me. I definitely feel this is one of the more overall positive and welcoming communities of any car out there.

Congratulations on the new trd pro! My suggestion would be to keep it stock for a while and just drive it. These 4runners are plenty capable for most people.

Welcome John! I too am a huge fan of Solar Octane, none to be found when I purchased my 4Runner. I agree with hossler1788, keep it stock and get a feel for it, those TRD Pro trims are very capable in stock form.

Good luck, don't waste your money on air intakes they do nothing unless you want more noise.

Yeah, I'm probably not wanting more noise. The exhaust is plenty of noise for me and I might even look into changing muffler or adding a resonator to eliminate some of the drone at certain RPMs under load.

Yes a lot of people actually prefer the non trd exhaust and will swap it for a standard 4runner exhaust because of the drone.

I'll have to check out that option. I wonder if it sounds better than the stock exhaust back on my 2004 4th Gen with the older 4.0 V6 that was really blah sounding. I wish the 'yota V6 sounded more like the 3.5 VQ in my 2001 Pathfinder. That stock engine/exhaust sounded great in every situation with zero drone.

These are mine. Had to turn off the led headlights since it washed out the photo. The led light are very bright and the brights are powerful.

Welcome from Northern Michigan! Like others have said.....skip the cold air intake as they do nothing for the 4Runners.

    I like the Morimoto's also :)
