By not idling, you are questioning our trucks' solid reputation :)

Not at all. I'm not concerned about hurting the car.

Taxis idle the crap out of their Camrys and they have 200, 300, and 400k miles on them. Relax guys, keep idling your Toyotas

Taxis usually have a "fleet" of mechanics on standby to work on them at a moments notice, that's why they have the high mileage they have. I see the taxis where we live go by on rollbacks quite frequently.

Just something i have done, is turn the vents on both sides so they blow at the steering wheel.

    That's what I do.

It has only really bothered me a few times, like when it's in the negatives for a high temperature. We don't usually get that for more than a few days at a time. Some winters we hardly see negative temperatures.

The week after I bought this 4Runner, we had a really nasty cold spell, like -25°F for a few days in a row. It was funny hearing a brand new vehicle make old man noises at cold startup.

Back in High school, For some unknown reason, I forgot to turn off my 78 Cutlass before a football game (Could pull the keys out of the ignition with it running).

I finally returned after attending a party latter that night and noticed it was still running. First thing i do is cut it off and then when attempting to restart, Nothing. This is before the time of having cell phones, So I had that working against me. Later found out that the alternator was going bad and wasn't outputting enough at idle and was slowly depleting the battery.

To this day, I always have a sneaking feeling when something idles for extended periods at a low RPM.

Back when I was racing, my F350 had an auxiliary idle control box where you could bump up the idle when parked to keep the alternator in a good rpm spot.

Oh, I didn't watch. I assume he said something similar to what I already do.

We get the occasional rush hour blizzard in NJ, where snow falls 2" per hour and a 45-minute commute can turn into six hours. One reason besides slippery hills it gets so bad are the countless cars that die in every lane and on both shoulders because they can't keep up with the electrical demand while stuck so long idling in stopped traffic (others just ran out of gas). Of course there are aggravating factors- they're running headlights, wipers, defrosters, and blower motors the whole time. I stopped going on whenever such a day was possible, but my strategy was to let the cabin stay cold and not run blower or defrost, and keep the wipers mostly off except when moving.

I doubt it. There are just too many of them (every kind of vehicle) and it happens often enough that drivers know the risks. The real problem is that those conditions push vehicles to the edge of their capability. They just don't produce enough current to run all those systems at idle for hours on end.

Let it run for a minute or so if it's a very cold morning and drive slowly for the first few miles till the needle reaches the half way point. Should not take more than 5 minutes of driving.

Um, fleet of mechanics? My brother managed a rather large taxi company before Uber ruined it. They had two guys servicing many hundreds of vehicles. Jerry Rigged would be too nice a term for how these cars were maintained. Basic service-oil changes and brakes mainly. Transmissions when they died were replaced from junkyard parts, as were most other items-alternators, etc. Lots of bailing wire, duct tape used on the rest. Most of the fleet had multiple hundreds of thousands of miles-a few approaching 500K- all very high idle times.
