Filling up a brand new vehicle(2023 TRD Off-road) for the first time is always a milestone. Now, I don't know how full the tank was when I picked it up at the dealer but here are some stats:

    • Miles to empty when the low fuel light came on: 32 miles
    • MPG since pick up: 14.5
    • Average speed: 17mph
    • Miles covered: 290 miles
    • Fill up: 19 gallons
So, how do these numbers stack up in your experience? Now that I have filled it up, the range to empty reads 370 miles. Could this mean the dealer had not fully gassed up? If 23 gallons capacity oil correct, I still had 5 gallons which translates to almost 70+ miles, not 32 miles.

Well, my window sticker literally says a "full tank of gas"; they are supposed to top it off for you prior to delivery of the vehicle - not prior to the test drive.

I did not note my specific metrics on my first tank of gas, but I was averaging pretty good mpg's (at least IMO), IIRC it was 20.3mpg on my first tank of gas. Now that I am used to how to make this thing "go", my average dropped to about 17.5mpg.

Surprised the dealer didn't have the tank filled before taking delivery, as that is figured in on Southeast dealers, Possibly they forgot if the sale moved quickly.

Correct in that the stock tank size is 23 gallons.

If have not welcomed you earlier, Welcome aboard.

Usually, when miles to empty reads 0, you have around 3-4 gallons left. The light comes on when you're down to ~5 gallons.

Fuel economy will improve after a few tanks, generally. When mine was stock, I generally got anywhere from around 17-21 MPG, ~18.5 was typical. Distance to empty usually read similar to what yours is telling you.

Thanks, had a post on the new owner site a few weeks ago. My second tank is already showing improvements. It has climbed all the way into the 16s! I also have an older Expedition with the 5.4 liter V8 and it touches 20mpg on the highway and 16 overall. Not sure where the gas goes in that 4 liter V6. Another hint that the tank wasn't full is that miles driven before the light came on was 290 miles. After fill up it reads 375 miles range.
