Any recommendations for one for a 23 4Runner. Also will it interfere with the backup camera and rear cross alert?

When you park in nyc and then someone parks behind you and sorry to say doesn't know how to drive this is the result. I used a vanguard on my mazda but that was a 2007 model. At this point I really don't care about either function anymore as I noticed that the back up camera is not accurate. It still says you're in the safe zone but when I got out of the car to check I was really close. So I don't rely on that anymore. So much for technology. I was hoping that someone else would have a recommendation as I would like to get it in black. Vanguard sells mostly chrome finish products.

Would something like a Hitch Hammer work?

I have never seen a full width guard on a 4Runner but Vanguard does make them.

This by the looks of it was somebody turning into or out of the spot behind the vehicle. I asked my wife since she drives the car mostly and she didn't realize that it was there. The full length bumper guard protects against that. I will have to look to see what is available. I saw one for a 22 4runner but It doesn't say if it fits a 23 model.

The picture above is what I am looking for. This one says that it fits. It's a blackhorse brand. Anyone familiar with it.

I recommend a Hitch Step; seems to help me out with drivers getting to close plus it helps getting access to the roof … several options and types available … see link: Tyger Auto TG-HS8U81238 Hitch Armor Compatible with Vehicles with 2" Hitch Receiver | Textured Black | Hitch Step | Rear Bumper Guard... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786SGH33

that’s the one i bought about 5 years ago; price has gone up … think i paid about half that from what’s on Amazon.

Reminds of Chicago back in the day (that’s why they call them bumpers they said)

I would just move, save some scratches, and save some taxes too.

All these types bars are weak garbage and mounts to parts of vehicle that are not designed to take impacts.
They will cause even more damage when hit. A light tap on one side of these bars can cause scratches and indentations on both sides of your bumper cover where the vertical rubber strips are.

Found this on Amazon. Solid steel, black powder coated, can be used as step, tow point, and provides some back end protection. I like the look. Has 2 hitch pin holes to adjust how far it sticks out. Does not interfere with camera, sensors, etc. A bit of rattle, but duct tape on the receiver fixed.

Or what about a basket for wider protection.

That’s starting to look more like offense than defense.

Don’t forget that something like this can cause you to inflict more damage if you accidentally back into someone.

    Also, let’s be real a second…

What do you think is going to happen if you put something like that on your vehicle, and some does give you a tap when parking, only to suffer a cracked body panel? They might take one look, realize that something like that is intended to maximize damage, and then proceed to dish out what they perceive to be justice.

Look, if I go off-roaring, I risk some stuff happening. If someone wants to park on the street in a city, they should probably assume the similar and make their vehicle choices accordingly.

This is why I just pay for parking garages when forced to go to my local metropolis.

Vendor probably hasnt updated their site. No changes from 22 - 23 on the rear bumper cover area that I am aware of.

You do have a point. Just to tell you. For one I am not moving because I own my home, for second if you go to a parking garage the attendant takes your car. While they won't damage it you have to see the way they drive the cars that they park. Tires screeching and you don't know if it's your car or not. The basket would be a good idea except that I would probably get pulled over and giving a citation since this is the peoples republic of NY. The hitch step that was recommended by drew man sounds good as well as the vanguard that I was looking at. On my mazda it did get hit but no damage to the bumper just the guard since I spaced it out away from the bumper. It's not like I get hit hard. It gets hit hard enough that it damages the paint. I missed the days of the steel bumper but it is what it is. These things happen everywhere in nyc. at the malls, costco, etc. people are just not considerate here. The basket would be the best one as it doesn't indicate that you are intentionally trying to damage the other persons car. If they disregard that then it's on them because it is very visible unlike the other one. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices. I will have to look around and see what others are using. There are a lot of 4runners here in the city for obvious reasons.

I feel your pain and am constantly parking as far away from others as possible. I'm so afraid someone's going to ding my doors, bump into me, etc.; people really do suck! This one might be a little less offensive, and probably the one I'll pick up. I'm most likely going to get a push bar too, as it's what I have on my Tacoma. Either way, folks can still manage to find a way to hit you even with these things.

JohnnyDough, when you say push bar do you mean like the bumper bar that I had attached a picture above. If not could you please upload a pic, thanks .

I have something simple like this on my Tacoma and might put one on my 4Runner since I'm OCD about someone banging into it. They are fairly inexpensive, protect against minor bumps, yet some love 'em and others hate 'em.

So do you have one for the rear? or is the only issue in your case is the front bumper. I don't put one in the front because I have never had that problem it is only the rear that seems to be a magnet for people either bumping it while parking or throwing a shopping cart at it. The bull bar looks nice though.

No, I just have a trailer hitch on the back. Someone managed to still rub against the front of my Tacoma even with the push bar. And, people are in such a rush or just inconsiderate that they sling their door open and hit your vehicle. That has happened on my Tacoma several times, so I am constantly watching out for my new 4Runner. It's going to happen at some point I'm sure, but I'd rather the newness wear off first. My girlfriend says I need to just cover it in bubble-wrap, ha!

i purchased this one from Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH2T2SBR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

only $58USD and don't care if i bang it up, you can see it clearly in the rear camera and it does not interfere with the sensors, it keeps people away and is a nice step
