Hi all I just picked up a 2018 SR5 premium. New to 4Runners but not new to Toyotas, I've had an FJ, Tundra and Tacoma.

I purchased yesterday and this morning I had to replace the battery, I mentioned that because it may be related to the issue I'm having right now. I'm not sure if the issue was present yesterday and I just didn't notice it or after I completely drain the battery and had it replaced but neither the driver side or passenger side doors lock. Either with the fob or inside the cabin.

Rear doors and latch work fine. It's hard to believe two actuators could be out on the 2018 model, is there a fuse that works just the front doors or relay that I can check first?

    Thanks

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Check your fuses. I bet you've got a blown fuse.

Under the dash. The foot pedal on the left, it's right there. You have to look up when you crawl under the footwell.

Never heard of blowing a fuse by simply replacing the battery.

After more research it appears the door lock actuators can go bad quickly. Going to replace the motor on one side and see if that takes care of it.

If there's any other ideas that are less invasive let me know.

If you lock those two doors with the key, do they unlock with the switch or fob?

Negative. There is no action on either door unlock or locking when using the fob or rocker on the door. Only manual operation.

I bought a 4 pack motor replacement. Got into the actuators for each door yesterday and replaced the motors. All is well again.

Thanks for the update. This will help someone else down the road. May I ask what 4 motors (Toyota?) runs as far as cost?

this is the link to the motors. They had great reviews and a few of them mention years of use without issues. I couldn't find the "OEM" motors but also recognize that this seems to be a problem for a lot of their vehicles so maybe there's a good reason not to go back with an OEM motor. I didn't want to replace the entire actuator because I wanted it to be as "OEM as possible".

There's a few videos that helped me - One for getting to the actuator assembly and one video showing how to open up the assembly and replace just the motor.

Video of gaining access to the actuator assembly:

Wow. I have never seen that. I worry for Toyota quality. Took a hit moving production here and another with all the technology being integrated.
